Well, I know what the aircraft are, but who the fellow in need of a haircut is, I have no idea. Tripoli keeps coming to mind; am I getting close?

Curse you, Commisar. I've just spent over an hour reading your story, and my work report remains unwritten and my mouse hand has gone all stiff and achey. On the plus side, I've been carried along in a great story, set in a time of the war that captured my imagination some time ago. Who knows how I ...

Then I would say Crete to Egypt LMAO June 1941...except they're all too bloody happy! :D Close mate, Greece to Crete! AFAIK, the great majority of the Greek troops on Crete stayed there after the Commonwealth troops were evacuated, so it's not too unfair of me! The date was probably May '41, like y...

I never liked Roxy Music. Now, if you're talking Joy Division , that's a different story. Look into their history, if you want confused double meanings and arguments about what names and songs mean. It's a bit too late to ask Ian Curtis what he was thinking, though. And if the first twenty seconds o...

Lee Ermey almost had a fit trying to turn us from ramrods into ragdolls to achieve that weird semi-shuffling gait our American cousins describe as marching. So, he could teach a bunch of raggedy-assed, unwashed civilian maggots to march properly, but he couldn't teach the Paras? Hmmm..... I will no...

The worst thing that could happen would the barrel melt. Unless the machinegun is closed bolt (which they usually never are to prevent cook-offs), your round wont cook off cause the round is on the bolt face and not in the chamber. I know cause I'm a machinegunner and bout melted the barrel one tim...

I thought (I'm an ex-infanteer, so what do I know) that the performance of HEAT rounds is the same regardless of range, because it's the shape and volume of the charge that effect the penetration, rather than the velocity of the round.

I stand by to be corrected.

I was surprised by how offensive I found the pictures of Bill in his BFC uniform. Once I calmed down, I realised that maybe that's how some people in other countries feel about collaboration in their own lands, so maybe I've learned something.

I still hate Nazis, though. @{

There does seem to be a theme of German films set in other periods, expecting the viewer to make the link, rather than just showing things directly.

Maybe the Germans were more subtle than the Brits :wink:
