what ?

A little old lady is sitting on a park bench in Trailer Estates. A man walks over and sits down on the other end of the bench. After a few moments, the woman asks, "Are you a stranger here?" He replies, "I used to live here years ago." "So, where were you all these years?&qu...

oldie

A little old man shuffled slowly into the "Orange Dipper", an ice cream parlor, and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool.

After catching his breath he ordered a banana split.

The waitress asked kindly, "Crushed nuts?"

" No," he replied, "arthritis

reunions and punishment

Hello Helmut. The punishment for real plundering was actually severe. But digging throug an abandoned house for socks or a piece of clean underwear, probably was not seen as this. However as i said this öplundering" of meatpreserves (in glass jars) gave us punisment within a couple of hours. :D...

downfall

Quote: Dear haen i have to disagree, i have a documantairy dvd about the same subject with interviews with a lot of the "original" people, not actors, seen in the "Downfall". Interviews with one of the hitleryouth kids seen in the movie. The downfall is based on interviews with r...

Dresden

I only saw the "clips", and if the subject were not so immensely sad and frightening, I would have smiled. Imagine, during a bombardment, burning buildings all around you, bombs still falling and exploding, and there is a small crowd "watching". I wonder if any of these "dir...

downfall

I saw it; well done, well played, pretty authentic uniforms and equipment, but yet . . . .this is a story, based upon stories who were based upon stories, that were based upon stories, etc. etc. I hope people will keep in mind that this was a film, based on a play. It's NOT historic footage, and NOT...

reunions

p.s I was off topic; this was supposed to be about reunions. For years I had ignored them, I figured I was too busy building a "new life"; and now, being almost 80 I am sorry that I did. :( So a word of advise for veterans of ANY army, don't let the band be broken. Your Comrades were a par...

OLD MEN

A little delayed reaction, but "Thank you" Rudi and Tom. I must confess though that I have "plundered". So "Father bless me, for I have sinned". Going through a little town on a scouting mission, my group and I ran into an abandoned home, that had glass jars of preserve...

local or internet

The most overlooked benefit of a local small supplier is that he/she can give you advise when you need it. Try to get that from an Internet shop, and you may pay umpteen dollars for "consultation". I found that my local hardware store is a much better provider of things I need than the big...

Hi Haen, 50,000 is also, coincidentally, the number of members the main Dutch National Socialist party claimed before the war. Not too many out of a population of some ten million! Cheers, Sid. Hi Sid; Actually that number was not too shabby, considering that there were well over 60 political "...

SS

Many innocent victims of allied warcrimes deserve attention and, indeed, do not get this attention. But the SS at Dachau is far from anything I consider to be innocent and making fuzz about their death is an insult to those inmates who survived the camp and those who died there. Hoi Timo. De SS at ...

numbers

Hi Sid, It also was estimated that only less than 50% of the Netherlands volunteers were "national socialist" in the sense of political belief. Even N.S.B. members, were not all true believers. Some (or many?) were of the same calibre as the rest of the population, actually waiting who wou...

Dutch men in German service.

To their big embarrassment, the Dutch "run away government", had to see that there were an approcimate 50,000 ( fifty thousand ) volunteers from the Netherlands in the German Army. This included the Waffen SS, the Kriegsmarine, some Wehrmacht, some Luftwaffe, many Luftwaffe flak helfers, T...

loss

Hi Max. The Dutch PEOPLE as a whole had nothing to fear when Germany lost the war. The Dutch PART of the people who had collaborated with the Germans, for whatever reasons, did fear for their lives. Our illustrious government had from the safety of London for years "promised" that there wo...

jeugdstorm

Hello Ichi The "Jeugdstorm" members that signed up even towards the end of the war, were for most part not "fanatics". Some (like my brother in law) were after "Dolle Dinsdag" (Crazy Tuesday, when panic set in and many N.S.B. families fled to Germany), simply 'drafted&q...
