Should be "Königgrätz".

Re: Dresden TV drama

My problem with "Dresden" was the rather unlikely love triangle, a feature that infests way too many war movies these days.

Re: can someone translate the address on the front

Here's a shot at a transcription:

Herrn Korvettenkapitän Alfred Pakusch
Kiel
Marineoberkommando Ostsee
Ober(something)stab

The Marineoberkommando Ostsee appears to have been relocated from Danzig to Kiel earlier in 1943. Here's more info: link.

Re: can someone translate the address on the front

Well, here's something on the fate of the sender: Nachname: Pakusch Vorname: Kurt Dienstgrad: Oberleutnant Geburtsdatum: 01.09.1909 Geburtsort: Christburg Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 17.09.1943 Todes-/Vermisstenort: Saporoshje I couldn't find anything on Alfred Pakusch, which might mean that he survived...

Re: Explosive New Book about Kursk Coming out in May

Then there's Kursk 1943: A Statistical Analysis by Zetterling and Frankson, which was published in 2001. It exploded a few myths, not least the Soviet claims. They have written a book which deals with the battle in a more traditional way (written in a more flowing style), but it hasn't been publishe...

Re: Some vehicle model/unit ID requests

Someone on another forum suggested that it could be an early version of the SdKfz 6, an a brief search yielded a pic with a 6 with the lesser number of road wheels.

Re: Some vehicle model/unit ID requests

I thought it was a SdKfz 7, too, but it lacks one inner and one outer road wheel. Also, there's the boxier rear, spare wheel, etc.

Wehrkreis II? Thanks for the info! That narrows it down a bit. I'll see what I can do about the unit sign.

Some vehicle model/unit ID requests

I've obtained several german photos, and am in the process of trying to pin down which units they depict. Maybe the excellent members here might have an idea about what the photos depict... http://bjorn.foxtail.nu/images/bil_41.jpg It appears like it was taken on the Eastern Front during the winter ...

Luftwaffe Oblt shoulderboard cypher ID?

Here are three Luftwaffe officers chilling outside their stabszelt on some French beach after the campaign of 1940. Three names are scrawled on the back of the photo, "Lt K...old, Major Jürgens, Oblt Forneberg". I'm trying to find out which unit they might belong to, as the Oberleutnant ha...

Here's an article with some funny photos of German soldiers. I had seen a couple of them before, but many were new to me.

Re: Humor in the Wehrmacht

Thanks for posting those stories! I think that much of the humor is lost because of the changing culture. Jonathan mentioned Monty Python, which is still quite funny, but was a real revolution 35+ years ago, as it challenged much of the morals back then. It is all a matter of cultural context. Remem...
