Re: Watermark Ost - any idea?

Re: Help with important set of photos from Der Spiegel

I looked through the pictures, and was really suprised when i red something i heard of before. The writing on one of the pictures was: "Das ist unser Kamerad Uffz Richard Feihl. Meine Schwester Marina hat ihn gut gekannt" I remembered that sentence, and that i translated it some time ago o...

Aus dem Raum ostw. Ljubzy tritt seit längerer Zeit wieder ein autom. Gr.W. auf, den der Gegner meistens an Brenn- oder Schwerpunkten einzusetzen pflegt. For quite sometime now, an automated grenader launcher in the area eastwards Ljubzy has shown up, which is usually deployed at focus points/center ...

Re: Wiking Feldpost Card

As he dont mention a wound in the letter, we can only guess. From what he writes you can tell a few things. He says he will be sent to frontline again, so we can assume he has already been at the front. Also he says he recovered well, so we can assume he was either wounded or sick. 100% sure you wil...

Re: A little idiomatic Erhard Milch

"Sie sitzen bis zum Hals in der Scheiße" is a common german sentence to describe someones hopeless situation. Translated to english, something like "they are stuck in shi.t up to their necks". The writer was a gentlemand id say, who did not wanted to write shi.t, but instead just...

Re: SA?

I would agree with you. From the 1 sentence i see, i would think its some list of vehicle reserves, including the ones of SA Reserves (SAR). The more tricky one is the HKP, it could both mean Heimatkraftfahrpark (civil vehicle park) or Heereskraftfahrpark (army vehicle park), even if the 2nd one was...

Hey Richard! People banged for hours on end, but no-one took pity on them, a couple of men dig utterly calmly but there are more than enough men to cordon off and yell at the public to "carry on". To shorten it up, the people say there were only a few men digging, while there were whole &q...

Re: German March Songs?

Of course the "Panzerlied" was not written for an american movie :P It was written in 1933 by the Wehrmacht Oberleutnant Kurt Wiehle. What is correct, the song was used in the movie "battle of the bulge". BTW, i like more the soldatenlieder, less the instrumental marches. Some of...

Re: Learning German

I would suggest you a real language training instead. Depending on your location, you could try Goethe Institutes, German clubs if existing, or private german language schools (most expensive option). This will really help you to learn some german, you will learn from a native speaker at best, you w...

Re: Even more idiomatic German

Ok, finally i got the point. As i said sometime before, my english might be not good enough to create a sentence you can copy 1 to 1 into a publication, but i try to give you an idea what the author says ;) Westphal talks about the reasons against an attack in may, mentioning sereval arguments like ...
