Re: Breslau 1945
No, he doesn't say 'bitingly cold'; he says it's -20˚C... which is bitingly cold. Then why not keep the original statement as "bitingly cold" is far too poetic and unprecise definition because "bitingly cold" means totally different for say Finns and Spaniards, or Alaskans and T...

Re: Breslau 1945
Yes, you should first set the general scene and then use the personal accounts in their first person format, preferably using e.g. italics or smaller font so anyone wishing to concetrate on the personal accounts could do so easier. As it is now, I won´t touch it with a long pole. Or are you saying t...

Re: Breslau 1945
Far too poetic and "novelized" to me. And I wouldn´t expect to hear terms like "Panzerfaust bazookas" in texts attempting to be serious. Let alone by a British author.

Re: Forthcoming JJF: 23. Panzer-Division/Rebentisch
AFAIk combat photos are much wanted by diorama makers...As for "new" photos, I have never understood what is so cool about them. Based on monitoring what is going on a few modelling boards, utterly crappy photos get savoured by these people as long as the photo is "new".

Re: Forthcoming JJF: 23. Panzer-Division/Rebentisch
Hmm, each Panzerwrecks has 96 pages ond costs 30 bucks. Thus for 95 bucks you get either a bit over 3 Panzerwrecks with some 300 pages in softcover or 536 pages in 15% larger format in hardcover (JJF/Rebentisch), so which is fact cheaper??? Honestly speaking, some of these "photo softcovers&quo...

John, how are other physical qualities? Most of the Nation Europa/Munin books I have seen have had pretty average binding and quite thin covers (warp easily and are often warped as new).

Re: Drama between Budapest & Vienna - Fedorowicz
Ahh, my dear David hasn´t recovered yet from the euphoria of BHO´s victory :D Last time I checked, my deck had actually 54 cards! I still stand by my comment that Nipe´s narrative is way overrated and Maier´s way underrated. Nipe´s text would be much better IF he used personal accounts "as is&q...

Re: Drama between Budapest & Vienna - Fedorowicz
Kelvin, the aim of Maier´s book is completely different from Kamen´s book and thus should not and can not be compared head-to-head! And tovaritsh kommissar, the book is not dry to read! I find it much more enjoyable than e.g. Nipe´s Last Victory or Decision in the Ukraine.

Haven´t previous volumes been printed in Korea? In general, so far I find the quality of Korean printed books better than Chinese printed ones.

The Drama between Budapest and Vienna is far more detailed than the Sons of the Reich. As the book is not at hand now, cannot tell you any details on the OOB stuff.

Re: Negotiating the Most Favorable Terms with Publishers
Mark, the book I mentioned is probably on your shelf as well: Shattered Sword by Jon Parshall&Tony Tully. Roughly put the book has perhaps the same word count as your first 2 DKiG vols in total (=bigger page size, denser text, far fewer illustrations). In other words, they weren´t restricted to ...

Re: Negotiating the Most Favorable Terms with Publishers
Well, e.g. Osprey authors do have to work within very strict word count limits. One quite recent book on a Pacific War campaign was laid out by the authors themselves as it allowed to cover price to be reduced from $50 to $35, with a substantial increase in sales potential for US market. It has now ...

Re: Negotiating the Most Favorable Terms with Publishers
BTW - Joe, has FlyPast gone belly-up??? It seems to have vanished off the shelves here in NI in the last three months... Phylo, no, it has not. At least according to their site www.flypast.com. Could be a change in distributor? Personally I prefer Aeroplane Monthly, though even that has seen a redu...
