Re: Explosive New Book about Kursk Coming out in May

Excellent! Well, after reading nothing but recycled sludge (beginning with Martin Caidin's horrifically bad "The Tigers Are Burning") for the past 40 years, it's about time Kursk began receiving the serious scholarly attention it deserves! (excluding David Glantz's book about Kursk, which ...

Re: Is Rudi Salvermoser still around?

Happy Easter to all and everyone ---- I last heard from Rudi last August 2010 - he had moved to the area outside of Orlando, Florida and he seemed to be in quite good health and cheer at the time (he said he was still doing OK in spite of his "advanced youth" stage) and I hope he still is!...

Re: Explosive New Book about Kursk Coming out in May

I haven't seen Zamulin's book, but according to one person who's had access to the manuscript, it doesn't do much with German sources, so it apparently examines the battle from the Soviet perspective - what conclusions he draws, I couldn't say. But I do know that George Nipe extensively references t...

Explosive New Book about Kursk Coming out in May

I just finished proofreading the final version of George Nipe Jr.'s Blood, Steel, & Myth: The II. SS Panzer Corps and the Road to Prochorowka about the Battle of Kursk in the south, due to be published in May of this year by RZM Imports. It's a good read, very well researched and will be extreme...

New Book about German Rations

Hey Folks, There's a new book out just this month by Schiffer Military Publishing about German Rations of the Wehrmacht in World War Two. It's written by Jim Poole, a retired US Army Lt.Col. who has spent a decade plus researching this topic and collecting examples of German rations of that war. He ...

Re: 6th Army Order of Battle/Brueckenkollone B 657

Just found out that Brueckenkollone B 657 (mot.) was indeed with the 6th Army at Stalingrad, where most of it was wiped out. The soldier whose re-issued Wehrpass I have must have been either outside the Kessel when the 6th Army was encircled, or was wounded and flown out - tip of the hat to John Mul...

Re: 6th Army Order of Battle/Brueckenkollone B 657

Thanks much - reason I ask, is that I just got a Wehrpass from a soldier assigned to this unit - since it is a company-sized unit, there is nothing in Tessin about it - it was probably assigned to a larger engineer battalion or regiment. The Wehrpass on page 46 states "Neuausfertigung due to th...

6th Army Order of Battle/Brueckenkollone B 657

Can anyone confirm whether Brueckenkollone B 657 was with the 6th Army from May 41 to March 43?
Thanks -

Re: 57. ID, 297. ID, 716. ID, 275. ID Need Informations

Richard, The Trees/Hohenstein book is very good - they cast a wide net for information and managed to haul in quite a bit. Trees was the journalist (still alive as of a couple of years ago) and Hohenstein was the veteran/historian. Hohenstein passed away a good while ago but if you can find the book...

Re: Hells Gate

Nothing major - Remy from RZM and I are still waiting for copies of Kovel photos from the son-in-law of the SS-PK guy who took them during the battle. Once we get those, we can knock the book out in 6 months. But nothing's happening until then. In the meantime, I've got an article out in the current...

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

Phylo, You're on to something - Hmmm, let's see - instead of Hollywood making the movie, how about Bollywood ? After all, Mein Kampf is currently a best seller over there (it's being marketed as a business strategy book, of all things!) so all you need to do is throw in some music, 10,000 dancing Ta...

Re: The Forgotten Soldier Movie Update

I think the only reason it isn't being made, at least not by the present (or rather I should say, the former) production team is that the financial backers (or rather, speculators) had to pull out. This simply isn't a good time to take financial risks - most of the movies appearing now in theaters f...
