Re: War in Georgia

Every country that Russia lands in they end up staying and occupying....Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, etc.... And that is still happening - the Russian navy in the Ukraine ? And did those rusting ships ever come home from Angola and Mozambique after the Cold War? Rega...

Re: War in Georgia

Funny that some call for 'honor' and 'integrity' and 'forthrightness' on Russia's part--particularly given the United States' own famously dishonest diplomatic track-record spanning the past eight years. There are those in Moscow who say that the U.S. "invented" the tragedy as part of a sc...

Re: War in Georgia

Embittered, philosophically-disjointed American and Western opposition to recent Russian intervention in Georgia, can likely be explained in the prescient thinking of one of the 20th Century's finest minds:

Re: War in Georgia

a choice of keeping Georgia at the potential loss of Kaliningrad. Isn't this the German city in East Prussia? I have to admit I NEVER heard anything like this. True, there really was no military power available to stop the Russians from occupying Georgia. That would of been a powder keg on its own ...

Re: War in Georgia

Actually, Phylo's "Truth" video says a mouthful in favor of the Russians, not against them. A thorough perusal of the film will reveal that the Russian commander is a seemingly uncharacteristically patient sort of fellow: In the beginning he's badgered and bandied about by a clutch of came...

Re: War in Georgia

The U.S. is in no moral position to label the Russian invasion of Georgia "malevolent aggression" (GW Bush's words), a "...desire to return to old empire...." (John McCain), or "...genocide" (Barack Obama). Indeed the U.S. isn't even in a position by which we might even...

I'm glad to know of some more good books that I can add to my ever-growing waiting list. I definitely agree about Forgotten Soldier, it's in my top ten of all books, and in my top 3 war memoirs. I'll mention a book because I never hear anyone talking about it. Nazi Seizure of Power by William Allen...

Very nice painting, Spiegelsaal: Very nicely done. Best of luck with sales. The push into the Caucasus. I think it was the south-easternmost point of the German advance in the USSR, correct? I've long wondered just what thoughts, precisely, were passing through the minds of those two men as they pro...

Re: Sad news from my family, getting back on track now

Sadly my beloved cat Una passed away earlier this week after a very serious surgery over the weekend. She has been in my family for 12 years. We rescued her from a shelter when she was 3 months old. She was a beautiful, gentle, reserved cat with a deep personality. She wasn't a lap cat but she woul...

Every inch of Germany--north, south, east, west--is an architectural, historical, scenic masterpiece. There are almost too many towns, cities, battlefields, castles, rivers, lakes, mountains, and other places of interest to mention here, so you might try these folks for pointers: These are Germany-l...

This type of "scholarship" is rampant in American universities. It is clear that crimes of war took place on the Eastern Front, but there is no evidence to suggest that the average landser can be responsible for carrying them out, nor were those crimes as widespread as some claim. The Vie...

Re: Stalin

Yes,I have read this somewhere as well.Given what the russians went through,I am not surprised that this idea may have been floating around. Russia shouldn't have played so key a role in the initiation of the First World War to begin with, and the nascent Bolsheviks shouldn't have played so key a r...
