codes used in Qu Tagesmeldungen
Hi all, I hope someone here can answer my question regarding codes used in daily Quartermaster reports (Qu Tagesmeldungen). The Tagesmeldung has the following major sections: I, dealing with units leaving or joining the Armee or Korps II, no idea. III, dealing with fuel: Reihenfolge Otto, Diesel. Su...

Re: Unit - PI. Masch. Zug 571 ??
Hi Terry,
It stands for Pionier-Maschinen-Zug, meaning it was a platoon with heavy machinery. It could usely be found with the depot batallions, or bridging units, amongst others.
Hope it helps,
Piet

Kelvin,
They were in transit to the HGr. Nordukraine. I have data from the AOK 2/ HGr. Mitte as well as from the Pz.AOK 4/ HGr. NU about the divisions.

Major Joachim-Wilhelm Freiherr von Maltzahn
Hi there, I am a bit confused about all the Major von Maltzahn's that seemed to be around in 1944. I know that a Major Berndt-Joachim Freiherr Von Maltzahn was the commanding officer of the Panzer-Brigade 107, which fought in southeastern holland in september 1944, but there was also a Major i.G. Jo...

losses of the II./ SS-Panz.Rgt. 10
Hi,
Does anybody know how many tanks (Panzer IV's and perhaps StuGesch.) the II./ SS-Panz.Rgt. 10 lost on the 10.7.1944 near or on Hill 122?
Even more, does anybody know the turretnumbers of the losses?
TIA,
Piet

Re: Real organisation of the 9. SS-Panz.Div. (1.6.44)
Kelvin, I would be more interested to know where Dugdale got his numbers from. The math in itself is easy. The authorized organisation of the Panzerspäh-Kompanie according to KStN 1162 has 12x SdKfz 222, 6x SdKfz 223, 3x SdKfz 231 and 3x SdKfz 232. That's the authorized organisation. The number of a...

Re: divisional Versorgungstruppen on the eastern front
Okay, problem with the Kf.Parktr. 5. Panz.Div. is solved.
Sometimes it's better to take a look from a distance and then solve the problems.

divisional Versorgungstruppen on the eastern front
Hi there, I have found detailed numbers of available and missing personnel strengths (IST and FEHL) for units on the eastern front as of 1.6.1944 and mid august 1944. The combined IST and FEHL makes the SOLL strength, and thus KStN strength. The numbers almost completely match with the KStN, and in ...

Re: Real organisation of the 9. SS-Panz.Div. (1.6.44)
Kelvin, It does not have to be wrong. The number of vehicles listed above are the real number of vehicles this particular division had. The authorized strength for this date are 8, most probably devided with 6 in the Panz.Gren.Btl. (gp.) and the remaining 2 in the Panz.Pi.Kp. I suppose the 2 missing...

Re: Real organisation of the 9. SS-Panz.Div. (1.6.44)
Kelvin, I suppose you have your assumptions based upon the information on page 104 of that book. The 2 8cm GrW were found in the III. (8cm GrW) Gruppe of the 4. schwerer Zug (KStN 1113 (gp.) v. 1.3.1942). There was 1x 250/7 for the Gruppenführer, 1x 250/7 for the Munition and 2x 250/7 for the 8cm Gr...

Re: Real organisation of the 9. SS-Panz.Div. (1.6.44)
Kelvin, More interesting is to know why you think they had only four of such armored vehicles. The numbers I posted above were what the division really had. There's also a SOLL-list, and there you can see what they were supposed to have. When you compare the SOLL with the (standard) KStN's which cou...
