Re: XX symbol for 2nd Pz Dv?
Hello gents, The XX symbol was used by both 2. and 6. PzD. 2. PzD used it from the second half of 1940 into 1941 and in 1941 it was taken over by 6. PzD. If I remember correctly there was a major reshuffle of PzD-symbols just before the start of Barbarossa. 2. PzD seems to have mostly used very &quo...

Re: midnight at skilled nursing fasciliy
I'm not sure what the term would be in Dutch or German, but quit goldbricking! Goldbricking: "A person, especially a soldier, who avoids assigned duties or work" So his mates would have to do his work. In Dutch that would be a "matennaaier", literally a "matefocker". W...

Re: Sentries in Hollywood and in Real Life
To some extent the potential problem was recognized and acted upon....at least in Norway. As to the effectivity of such an instructional booklet....?????? http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j255/PaulusII/NewPicture10.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j255/PaulusII/NewPicture8.jpg http://i82.photo...

Re: WW2 related museums/sights in Wien ?
Hi Quasimodo, "Do you know some good WWII museums or places to see?" Hmm.......not exactly but when I visited Wien three years ago I did find it interesting that in the Zoo (very much worth a visit in its own right!) there are still some bombcraters from an Allied bombingraid on the city. ...

Re: PAK conundrum...
I agree that the depicted gun is a Pak40 and not a Pak38. As for the effectivity of the Pak38, going from the top of my head here but I do believe Dutchman Gerardus Mooyman won his Iron Cross, second and first class, and his Knights Cross while knocking out T-34's with a Pak38

Re: Armoured trains in Denmark in 1940
Thank you very much Leo! And indeed the numbers are 23, 24 and 25, sometimes I type quicker than I count  . Though trains certainly aren't my main area of interest I do find such small, relatively little known units of the 1939-41 period most intriguing and I'll try to find someone who'll buy ...

Armoured trains in Denmark in 1940
Hi all, I am looking for information on the armoured trains that the Wehrmacht used in Weserübung Süd. I know that Panzerzüge 22, 23 and 24 were part of Höh. Kdo. XXXI but after this little gem of ultimately detailed knowledge I go blank. I'm mostly interested in the routes they took and if they wer...

sPzAbt 502 tank numberingsystem in 1943
Hi all, As I’m somewhat confused by numberingsystem of the tanks of sPzAbt 502 in 1943, here goes a cry for help. I gather the numbers started out with the usual three digit numbers in 1942 and that in february 1943 this was changed to a single digit as the Abteilung lost its 2 Kp to sPzAbt 503 and ...

Re: did the german wehrmacht recycle
but after 1942 - how many batlefields remained in GERMAN hands afterwards ??? Quite a few actually. Frontlines weren't on the move all the time or even most of the time and specially northern Russia was quite static for a long time. It was, however, customary to launch small, localized attac...

Re: Humboldt, Hubertus or what?
Excellent Raúl!! :D It must be "Hubertus" in march 1944 then. This picture is one of a series of pictures that were taken in the same time and place. All of such quality that I believe they are part of a photoreport by a member of a Propaganda Kompanie. Just last night, while still searchi...

Humboldt, Hubertus or what?
Hi all, I'm looking for some more information about the picture below: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j255/PaulusII/PzVIE.jpg In some books it is described as elements of sPzAbt 501 during "operation Hubertus" in 1943. As far as I know Hubertus was an anti-partisan action in Greece and ...
