Re: Researching Grandfather's military service

Whoa! Not so fast. He was an electrician who worked with Morse code and was stationed with a Feste Funkempfangsstelle (fixed or stationary radio intercept station) in Breslau, his EKM is for Funkhorchstelle 88 (Radio Intercept Station 88) and his photos all seem to be of German cities - no foreign c...

Re: Can't find "Technisches Bataillon"

Go to the link below. It will answer most of your questions.

Did you consider entering "Technisches Bataillon" and "Technical Battalion" in the Google search engine? I did and got about 4,000 hits in all.

Re: Feldpost / Schiffspost numbers listing

This should solve your problem with World War II Feldpostnummern. I know nothing about WWI field post numbers but maybe someone else here can help with those. Go to this web site: http://www.stampsx.com/ratgeber/stempel-datenbank.php?fuer=/ratgeber/ortsverzeichnis.php Enter the Feldpost number you w...

Re: Feldwasserstrassen-Abt. 4

The U.S. War Department German Military Dictionary translates it as "Field Waterways Battalion". The U.S. Army had them, too, and they belonged to the Corps of Engineers. As Christoph said, they used boats to transport troops, equipment and supplies along inland rivers and lakes.

There might be something in this 5-volume study. Many of the hospitals are covered in some detail.

Not a wreck recovery fan, but I did enjoy the movie. When Leie's plane hit the ground, his engine block must have had a mind of its own and kept right on going headed for China! It was really, really buried DEEP! I'm guessing 4 meters?

Re: Tracing my grandfather during WWII

MatB - Jäger-Rgt. 48 (L) belonged to the 18. Lw.-Felddivision stationed in and around Dunkirk until August 1944 and then withdrew to the Mons/Belg. area. This book has an entire chapter on this division: Muñoz, Antonio J. Göring’s Grenadiers: The Luftwaffe Field Divisions 1942-1945. Bayside: Axis Eu...

Same information that you received on Axis History Forum.

May we ask the purpose of the information?

Re: Luftwaffe Sicherungs kompanie?

No offense, but I think you have a seriously flawed view of the Lw.-Felddivisionen. Sorry, Bergh, you misunderstood me because I used an idiomatic expression. I should have written it out in full as: "I don't mean to offend you, but I think you have a seriously flawed view of the Lw.-Felddivis...

Yes, Isa, the uniformed civilian employees of the Luftwaffe, which from February 1944 was called the TSD (Truppensonderdienst), wore the same uniform as the regular Luftwaffe. Their arm of service color on their collar tabs was light blue and their shoulder boards had a Caduceus (staff entwined with...

Re: Searching for German Grandfather

Feldafing is a tiny village 30 km SW of München on the west shore of the Starnberger See. In the reference books I have for wartime German secondary schools there is no mention of Feldafing. The secondary school students from Feldafing attended the Oberschule Starnberg, just 6.8 km north of Feldafin...
