I will give you the details in one or two days, when i have more time. The operations were of course defensive (mainly escorting convoys) because of the huge superiority of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet. I will give you the numbers in my next post. The Germans had some MTBs and U-boats in the Black Sea...

In the Constanta action, other Soviet ships were also damaged by mines (including the cruiser). The Soviets had another squadron (including a battleship) waiting at some distance to attack if the first attack was succesful. For the rest of the war, Romanian destroyers were in action only with Soviet...

Jeff, Romania allied with Germany after the loss of Transilvania. Why? Because it was surrounded by enemies, the traditional allies (France and Britain) were defeated and the attack on Russia was a chance to reclaim other lost provinces (Bassarabia and Northern Bucovina). Marshall Antonescu also tho...

Sid, Almost half of Craiova was destroyed (BTW, i don't live there). The railway was at the edge of the town and quite small. The bombardment also aimed to burn the city or was done wrong. My grandmother was machinegunned from an Allied plane while she was with some cows on a field 20 km. from Craio...

I wiil only post a small brief about the reasons why we allied with Germany (because i need to go to bed...). At the beginning of the war (1939) Romania was surrounded by enemies. Hungary, SU and Bulgaria all had territorial claims over Romanian land. Romania stayed neutral but the people and the ki...

Romania's war
Westerners usually ignore warcrimes made by the Allies. Romania's war was with the Russians, although a formal state of war existed between our country and UK/USA. Even Marshall Antonescu said : "I'm allied with Germany against the SU, neutral between Germany and UK and i hope that the American...

To 101st doc: Yes, the ones who decided to bomb Coventry, London or other non-military targets should be convicted and i think they actually were. Stalingrad and Leningrad were battlefields, you shouldn't compare them to Dresden. Westerners usually ignore warcrimes made by the Allies. Romania's war ...

The people responsable for Dresda were monsters. All those involved, not only Churchill or Harris should have been trialed for their crime. The Allied airforce made many other raids that were military useless and killed a lot of people. The town where i was born (Craiova in Romania) was almost compl...

Re: Oh god..
Well, if it isn't a little Russian-bashing convention.. Dragos, don't really know what you mean about engineers.. but i'm guessing you aren't an expert on the Red Army. So the 'R' in RKKA actually means "Russian"? Perhaps if you are so smart, you would know that the USSR consisted of more...
