Re: A couple of sentences...

Should be eine einheitliche Truppe, but I guess you know that and it's just a typo.

I'd suggest it means that after tough fighting there were no longer any regular troops left facing the unit, but I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Too many subordinate clauses

And just as heir neighbour on the left, the 609 Division, no longer gave ground or wavered, Besslein's men gave an example even in fighting over glowing heaps of rubble, like for example company commander Budka, who, in a defensive strongpoint in the Augustastrasse opposite the enemy-occupied Landve...

Re: More Niehoff and Ahlfen

I think that's pretty much it my version reads : The enemy, who had already broken through there once, was driven back by well-aimed Pzfaust fire from the high churchyard wall on his heavy AT guns massed in position in two village streets. I think they trying to suggest that there were a lot of AT g...

Re: And not so short... or sweet

Hi Richard, this is the sense of it: The well-known mistakes and omissions in extremely inadequate arms, clothing and equipment which are indicated by the few terms "captured rifles with 5 to 10 rounds per weapon, no uniforms, low shoes" had preceded this immediately incipient re-organisati...

Re: Woohoo, another Nazi speech

Maybe this will help a bit; Today we have become what for centuries Germans could only long for: the German People. And we - referring to Silesia - after overcoming a post-war episode from our people's consciousness, have become what we can be in the context of this German People, regionally and cha...

I agree with Fahrdienstleiter.

Gesichtsausdruck is facial expression and not related to SIcht.

And the next bit: can't read the top line properly... we were attached to the Wehrmacht and were sent directly to Russia, where I was in the G ? Einsatz and Ausb Reg 489 and that's where I was wounded too. AFter conalesence I returned to Oldenbourg by draft ttown?, and I managed to get myself transf...

Re: Another Nazi speech I'm loving translating...

Here's my take:

Being conscious of belonging to your own people, for life and death, forms a protective wall around the Reich, one which cannot be destroyed by any violent means.

Re: Short and sweet

Here's my take on it, although sw_eno's version is fine :D The telephone next to his bed shrills. Field Marshal Schörner is in Breslau and wants to speak to the fortress commander. An impossible request. The General replaces the receiver. After a few minutes Major Bock calls again and literally says...

Re: And this is just horrible

Hi Richard, this is the best I can do. Poetic stuff With everything of worth that I come across, I feel how near the end it is and how complete this destruction is - to such an extent that hardly a single person is going to remain, and when, torn, persecuted, no longer knowing anything of their near...

How's about this:

No matter how firmly the troops are in the Führer's hands at the moment, if the previous treatment by the English continues the possibility of intellectual sympathy with Bolshevism cannot be ruled out.

Re: The hiatus is over

Sure the Indian Ocean is more fun !!

In many cases this inner despondency leads to rash remarks, the wording of which in effect amounts to sapping the fighting spirit, but which generally only spring from a short-lived state of depression.

Re: Very difficult

Hi,

tricky questions with no context, as the translation changes.

Heimat - homeland, but can be simply home or Blighty in UK slang, e.g; Heimatschuss is a Blighy wound.

überhaupt keine Ahnung - no idea at all, no idea whatsoever etc.

If you can post a sentence or two maybe that would be easier...
