Re: Effectiveness of German Infantry Divisions in Russia

IMHO,it is questionable to use casualties to determine relative effectiveness:what about artillery? what about numerical strength ?

Re: How accurate are these losses on the Ostfront?

The following is an extract from an addendum to a OKW communiqué issued early July 1942 after the fall of Sevastopol. I'd be interested to know how accurate (or not) the losses given are (they cover all three branches of the Wehrmacht although I'm assuming a good 90 per cent will be Heer). It's not...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

Poland allying with Germany /the SU,was suicide :if it allied with Germany,it would become a German satellite,if Germany won,it would be punished by the SU if the SU won .If it allied with the SU,it was the opposite . And,there was no need for Poland to ally with Germany/the SU,because it was not in...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

If one is looking on the 1945 elections, where the government lost 17 % of the votes and 230 seats, one can argue that a huge majority in 1935 for the government (427 on 615) did not exclude that in 1939 the government could lose the elections . An other point:in 1931 the (Samuel) liberals had 6.5 % o...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

On the British parliament, you are forgetting that a loss of a few % could mean the loss of the majority :all is depending ,not of the majority in parliament, but from the number of marginal seats . A theoretical exemple A) you have a majority of 50 (366 on 630) and 60 marginal seats B) you have a maj...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

The minimum one can expect is that a poster should inform himself and not write stupidities .As there were elections in 1935,the last year for the next elections was 1940 . The parliament act of 1911 required that a parliament would be dissolved after a maximum of 5 years .(before it was 7 years).Th...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

No,the last elections were in 1935,that means that the would be elections before june 1940(the commons could "sit" only for a maximum of 5 years, and, everything is indicating that Chamberlain would dissolve parliament and call new elections in 1939(he could do this when he liked). The Torie...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

And,a German-Polish alliance (against the SU) :another fish of Loch Ness:that would be very stupid of Poland (as would be an alliance with the SU against Germany) :such an alliance would result in to Poland becoming a German /Soviet satellite .It would destroy the statu quo,and the survival of Polan...

Re: Was it due to Italy Germany lost the war?

I see that the monster of Loch Ness (the myth of the importance of the Guarantee to Poland) has appeared again. In contrast to what is saying Ronald Lameck<The guarantee was a complete change of position<,after the guarantee, appeasement continued :Chamberlain was no Saul, who ,having seen the light,h...

Re: Wehrmacht Motorization Effort

Hm,IMHO,it was more a problem of producing motor vehicles, and, till 1944,there was no shortage of oil .
The total production was(imports included)
in 1940:6868000 tons (consumption:5,856 million)
1941:8,885 (consumption 7,305)
1942:8,8965 (consumption:6483)
1943:10,497(consumption :6971)
1944: 6,504

Re: Strategic and operational decisions summer 1943

Historical facts are what they are and the conversations took place. They illustrate the disagreements between Hitler and his commanders. And the professionals were right. It is obvious that any autobiography of a German general, published after the war, would have as aim to exculpate the generals of...

Yes,it had importance, because,at that time ,everything that was published was biased.
Btw :the conversation does not prove anything.

Re: What if: The Italians actually attacked early on

I will repeat my question :why should Italy attack Egypt ? The fact is that the Italian DOW was a total improvisation, nothing was ready,if Mussolini planned to join the Germans and to attack Egypt, preparations would have been made . it is was the bandwagon effect :the Germans were winning, and Mussol...
