Russians at Nemmersdorf

Does anyone have an idea about the total amounts of massacred Germans in Nemmersdorf alone? Depending on the source used the number varies from 26 to in the hundreds. Nemmersdorf was not a single incident, we can't forget what happened to Berlin (see Beevor), same scenes already took place in Hungar...

Hallo Christoph Awender, Had a look at your site, where on earth did you find the patience of angels to make all the known divisional insignias? Had to laugh with SS-Gruppe Schill’s emblem; an officer’s hat from Prussian era. Schill was a lieutenant who was one of the driving forces behind the resis...

Timo, Aschenauer was not a founder (at the time of the founding I believe he was still engaged in small German nationalist parties, sort of like Roeder) but he did cause some havoc with a few articles he wrote for N&E in the eighties. The tone of the magazine was still sharp and feisty at the ti...

Re: Famous SS Men Who Went on to Political Office?

Know of any Famous SS Men Who Went on to Political Office? (in Any Country, not just the Fatherland) Probably the most known one is Franz Schönhuber, former LSSAH. He went through some heavy storm when he revealed he was a former member of the Waffen-SS and proud of this, but his book “Ich war dabe...

Breaking news: assault on Waffen-SS monument

I have just received this and it counts as official HIAG report. It will only be posted at Feldgrau.net. Hello Sid, 1. What is provocative about asking the original question? You try to make it seem as if the German leadership consisted of a bunch of cowards sending the elderly and young to their death. I know that for some, this is true, but you can’t judge a tree on a few rotten apples, now can you? ...

Sid has a point though. High nazi's prayed the public into war and death. They made them fight for them, but didnt do self hardly anything. Obviously no leader will engage combat when they are winning, but I could imagine they could have fight for their own 'cause' in the end. Seems not many nazi's...

Sid, Don't you thing this thread is a bit provocative and or insulting to any intellectual mind? Why don't we compare the Allied list of senior officials who died in combat with the German one, how about that? Or how about all the war-preaching politicians during Vietnam? Politicians are a breed apa...

Hello Timo, 1. ....Hmmm, on the other hand I've heard some complaining from their family members. Despite that of course I heard these complaints 60 years after the fall of nazism, I do think it is not that strange that religious south German (read: Catholic) family members did not like it when thei...

Hello Timo, It seems like it indeed. But I’ve never heard complaints about the atheistic character and the expected leaving of the church. Here are some numbers; (Source: BA: Slg. Schum. / 245 II, 436; Statist. JB of SS 1937, 1938) Number of atheistic (“Konfessionslosen”) members in: SS-Totenkopfver...

That's easy - because the Waffen-SS was openly atheistic. I thought this was generally known. This doesn't rule out that chaplains were present (the Walloon Brigade even had 2 in its history) but in the SS you knew that there wasn't going to be any praying and going to confession. The SS as a purely...
