Re: Interesting document

The SS-FHA thought highly of Krüger, and wanted him get some experience as a divisional commander. They therefore assigned him to take over the Nord battlegroup, which needed new leadership. However, then Arthur Mülverstedt was killed in action, and the SS-Polizei Division needed a commander. It was...

Re: Polizeikompanie Rowno, Narwa Bataillon, Polizeibataillon 33

Estonian Freedom Fighters in World War 2 is edited by August Jurs. Estonian Vikings is by Richard Landwehr. My copies of the first two volumes of the Narwa Bataillon's Estonian-language history are in boxes somewhere, but I have the third book at hand, its title is Visadus Voitis. It doesn't have a ...

Re: Polizeikompanie Rowno, Narwa Bataillon, Polizeibataillon 33

There's extensive veterans' histories of the Narwa Bataillon. They were published in Estonian in three books, which is a lot of detail for one battalion! I have the books, but can't truly read them, so friends in Estonia paraphrased parts of the history for me. Then, there's the English language Est...

Re: Polizeikompanie Rowno, Narwa Bataillon, Polizeibataillon 33

Hi Martin, The Narwa Bataillon was the first battalion of the Estonian SS Legion. It was formed by men from various Police Battalions, whose term of service was coming to an end. Because it was the first battalion, and would be a showcase for the Estonian contribution to the Waffen-SS, it was given ...

Re: A couple of excellent imminent Ostfront books

If you can't actually offer any anlysis, why bother to post? I think it is all true and accurate, and the reasons have been explained. The part about 1941 or 1942 is that the Germans had to wear down Soviet manpower, which they did. Then, the Soviets made good their losses by using people normally t...

Re: Review: To Battle (14th SS)

By the way, the English translation of Heike's book is available again, for anyone interested. Tom at the Aberdeen Bookstore received a tip that the Ukrainian Veterans' Association in Canada had a batch in a warehouse, collecting dust. So he bought up the remaining copies from them, and has them for...

Re: SS kriegsberichter Nonnenmacher

Bosnia makes sense, as he covered the Prinz Eugen Division for a time. He also covered a unit on anti-partisan duty, either the 1. SS-Infanterie Brigade or the SS-KD/Florian Geyer. Thanks to Mike for the biographical details!

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel

Thanks John, but it's not a week, just three days. All I'm doing is frantically scanning photos out of contact sheets. I'll have to come back in the future and really spend a week getting more of them! There's all sorts of good material never or rarely seen so far, such as Prinz Eugen division photo...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel

I had a good day today. I knew this would be a day of learning my way around, and so it was. One very good thing was that I put in a request for the Help Lady to pull the Ribbentrop Collection of Waffen-SS Kriegsberichter contact sheets, knowing that the next records pull wasn't scheduled for anothe...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel

I had to postpone my trip by one day, but I'm typing this now in College Park, and Tuesday morning I'll be at the NARA. I don't know yet whether I'll stay over till Thursday, but doing so is certainly a possibility. Meanwhile, I'm so excited to begin that I can hardly stand it! :D

Re: Show Us Your Library

Very nice! I wish I currently had space to put up my books, but most are still in boxes, as I indicated above :x One question, what is the book that has a sunwheel at the bottom, and seems to say Europaische Freiwillige in der Panzer Division Wiking"? I don't believe I'm familiar with that book...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel

I'm driving to College Park, Maryland, on Sunday, to access the US National Archives on Monday through Wednesday next week. I bought a new scanner, so I'll be ready to scan hundreds of photos for this latest book and future projects. Once my work there is done, I'll have a much better idea of my rem...

They look like they might be one of the Heimatwehr forces raised in Eastern Europe among the ethnic-German communities to ward off partisan attacks.

Re: SSPK Man Truöl photo

I'm going to the US National Archives next week, Monday through Wednesday. Hans Truöl will be one of the guys whose photos I'll be especially looking for, along with Bruno Wisniewski, Erich Fabiger, Werner Stille, and Helmuth Möbius. These seem to have been the "stars" among the Nordland a...

Re: In Final Defense of the Reich: The Destruction of the 6th SS

I don't have a copy yet, but I expect to get one sooner or later. It's definitely on my radar for eventual purchase, but I'm focusing on books related to the Germanic Waffen-SS for the moment.
