Hi All.....

Any "lost" war sends recruits into the Legion. And would be mightily suprised if truly there were NO Wehrmacht personnel. Men join the Legion for MANY resons, not least because they WANT to, and because they enjoy soldiering. You'd be amazed how many Americans joined in the mid-70s after V...

Hi all.....

Was doing a bit of research recently for a book I'm writing, and in tracking down info on German machine guns not only did i find several sites saying that the '08 was still in issue at the start of the war, but also on one site there were pics of one in action - not in training, either! And am temp...

hi sid!

Hi Sid and others Sid, i wouldnt call Guderian's drive to the Channel breakthrough action Somme-like! lol Actually, more Mons-like - fast maneuvering, mobile units (cavalry) using their speed and mobility to shield slower-moving units etc. I accept its fair to say that BRITISH breakthrough actions w...

top of the page......

Hi all to go back to the original questions at the top of the thread..... The British Army didnt have "elite" units - they had units that were more experienced, had frontlined more operations, thus had a higher "publicity" profile and were often at the head of the charge. Therefo...

barbarossa?

I doubt the Fallschirmjager would have got a top spot during Barabarossa - yes it may not take very long to train paratroopers, but it does take some time to equip them, and there was, what, only six weeks between Crete on May 10th and Barbarossa on June 22nd? By the time the Crete operation began t...

Zeebruge?? Step back to 1918 and look at the plans and success of the Zeebruge blockship raid carried out by Sir Roger Keyes and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, then decide if St Nazaire was that original.....

coastal bridgehead.....?

hey guys...what about Calais in 1940? When the British arrived by sea at the port, there were no French forces or Other British forces in the immediate hinterland. They had a week to debouche but only did so to a limt of some five miles from the city. And it was only occupied to secure it as a possi...

oil war????

Hmmmmm, this is an interesting posit WW2 was not an Oil War in the modern sense that it was started for the main strategic reason of securing oil. Yes, during the conflict there were campaigns, sometimes major, fought for the short-term strategic gain of oil, or rather petrol - the Caucasus campaign...

regulars in Crete

Hi all.
In various histories the troops landed by Ju52 at Maleme under shellfire on the third day of the battle are always referred to as "heavily-equiped regular troops." Thus not Fallschirmjager....and I wouldnt say GBJ either.

back to the plot........

hi guys I need to clean up a few things in the posts above. the Boer "concentration camps" were exactly that - not camps in the WW2 sense. They - like similar in the late '40s in Malaya and later in Kenya - were simply where sympathetic civilian populations were closeted to prevent them gi...
