Re: Ambush at Poteau photo

This photo has been discussed at length here and elsewhere:
It is not Heinz Maeger. Maeger didn't participate in the Bulge. He got wounded in late 1943 and after that he served in a medical unit, his book is still in print.

Re: Bullet markings (NOT Cartridge cases) ID help needed

Hi Mike,
From your description I'd say it was from a French Lebel rifle, the cartridge being produced in RE (Rennes).

Kind Regards,
Simon

Re: Fsp Betr Kp /A N.I 570

Hi, Assume you refer to this unit: Fernsprech Betriebs Kompanie / I. Abteilung / Nachrichten Army Regiment 570. The unit formed in August 1939 in Nürnber in Wehrkreis XII. Re: found german dogtag

Hi Flakpanzer11, Without a photo to confirm we are reading the data correctly it is not ideal. As it stands it doesn't entirely make sense, but I'm guessing it is from the 4th Freiwilliger Feldzeug Kompanie. The 278 being his stammrollnummer. The reference to Division isn't making sense for me. Can ...

Re: Burial of men KIA

Question: Before a fallen soldier was buried by his comrades, what items were removed from his body? I assume that in addition to his Soldbuch and dogtag half anything personal like letters, photos, watch, rings, etc. was retrieved to be sent home to his family. I would also assume that all decorat...

It had volunteers from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, later volunteers came from the Netherlands and Belgium under the command of German officers. In 1942, SS units were created using ...

Possibly some confusion amounting from "assault guns" and those "Bison" left in La Gleize?
