Halder's Diary

Hi Osterhase. In reply to your post. "On 24th August, for example,Halder estimated that the combat strength of the German infantry divisions averaged 60% of full capacity and the Panzer divisions only 50%." Well that 'information'may or may not be from Halder's diary, but the quote is not.Which book di...

Logistics

In response to the "analysis" the germans had to either modify their locomotives,or modify the russian rail network. This is just rediculous. All 3 army groups in Barbarossa had eisenbahn truppen battalions following the combat divisions and they started converting the russian rail from day 1 of the ...

All that

Qvist,in reply to your post of march 30. The infantry Gefst of a 6 battalion was 5,145 men. Yes that is right, and for a 9 battalion division about 7,700 odd as I said. Fehl appears to have typically been in the 80% area in the infantry yes,but it is fully possible that it was even higher.. So once a...

Victory?

Hi Iron-Bismarck,how to reply to the ideas in that video? The words 'absurd','rediculous',and 'uninformed' come quickly to mind. But lets go through it anyway. "legitimate and valid reasons for persuing victory at Stalingrad" None!!Stalingrad was valueless as a target after river traffic was interrupt...

Komar

Just a few more little gems from Gary Komar's article. "Reluctantly he[Guderian] moved half the distance to Krichev on August 9th." Funny that Guderian should move to Krichev on August 9,when Krichev had already been taken by 4th Panzer on July 17th!!The attack of 24 th Corps on aug 9 was towards Ro...

Komar

Osterhase,I really don't know where to begin to explain to you how utterly confused you are about this! This is getting really annoying. Now sit down and read this carefully.<<<Everything that Komar has in that quote is DIRECTLY OUT OF HPE bySTOLFI!!!It is all stolfi information,AND IT IS NOT data fro...

Komar

What is absurd about it? The whole idea! "Combat capability" is not the same as strength. Isn't it?Well it sounds like you are making 'combat capability'mean anything you want it to mean. ..it relates to Gefechtsstarken. OK,so lets go with your numbers on that! AOK18 report: ..it's 11 divisions had...

Cover

Qvist may have attempted to cover things, but it is interesting to see that as usual you have nothing in the way of facts to offer. ..only you Tim have issue with it. Well Qvist has not read for start! [/quote]central thesis Dont refer to concepts that you dont understand Osterhase.Komar does not put...

Manstein went directly south to assume command of Army Group Don.11th Army was given over to AGC.That is why the operation was cancelled.

Losses

Hi Osterhase.I would like to respond to the post in which my name was mentioned. Before I do however,I would just like to clarify one thing. And that is,Are you still trying to defend that worthless article by Gary Komar on AHF?Are you seriously trying to defend that absurd insinuation about 80% comba...

Reality check

Igorn, you are of course entitled to your opinion.I strongly disagree. As far as Manstein is concerned, you think his chances were not good,I think they were very good, and I use sevastopol as my precedent. The sinyavino offensive was a COMPLETE failure:it did not stop Manstein from attacking Leningrad....

Feeling

Igorn do you have to take things so personally? It really sounds like you are offended by any reference to Red army failures. I would not be surprised if Mr Wells will call Stalingrad,Bagration or Vistula-Oder as the German victories Why would I call them victories??Correct me if I am wrong, but didn'...

Leningrad

Let us also not forget that at the same time the major chunk of 11th army of Field Marshal Manstein with their heavy artillery was shifted to H G North with the order to capture Leningrad. The result is known. Well the attack on Leningrad was still only in the planning stages, but given the performan...
