How did it compare?

Chapter VII of my "interview" on http://www.feldgrau.com/interview6.html describes some of my experiences in the US Army from 1948 to 1952. The 4-year hitch in the US Army gave me the chance to make something out of myself for which I am still greatful. Rudi Salvermoser (or: S-Alphabet - t...

It is the VETERAN , not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN , not the campus organizer, wh...

[quote]If you were a 17 year old in Germany in 1941 what service would you try for? Luftwaffe, kreigsmarine, wermacht or waffen s.s. Bear in mind, you know nothing except about death camps or attrocities for this hypothetical question. Myself,I would try for the Luftwaffe. Then again, I would proba...

G'day Herr Panzergrenadier,
thanks for pointing out my omission. I must have written it in one of my 'senior' moments.

Drei Jahre...

Hallo Halder, for me, this book was very interesting to read; especially because I was a member of the FBB (Fuehrer-Begleit-Bn.) whose job it was to guard in the Wolfsschanze in Rastenburg in Sperrkreis II (security area II). Alfons Schulz, for 3 years, worked amidst the "inner circle" of ...

I think that continual would be the closest meaning. The word 'Dauergebet' isn't even listed in the Oxford Duden.

Panzer- & Stug uniforms

In my unit, 5.Pz.Kp./FBB/GD, we wore the same uniform for both. I was a gunner in both of them, whether assigned to the Mk IV or Stug III, (at different times, of course). I don't know about other units.

Krieg?

Hello Halder, I've spent the past 15 years trying to understand why a cultured nation has been at the heart of two world wars and committed heinous, unforgiveable crimes in the process. May I add my 5 cents worth of knowledge: We, the common citizens of WWII Germany, had no idea about what's going o...
