Re: Germanische Officer Courses at Bad Tölz
I don't have information about Collard in particular, but Michael, you are probably aware that the composition of Belgian Waffen-SS units was mixed. Some men with French names considered themselves Flemish and served in the Flemish Waffen-SS, and some men with Dutch names grew up speaking French, an...

Re: Fallschirmjäger Luftwaffe Combat Group Where? Translate Pse
The do appear to have LW eagles on their caps. They also have good weaponry, such as a MG42. This suggests they are a LW Feld Division element. Those received good weapons, as opposed to, say, a LW Festungs Bataillon, which would have to make do with older or foreign machine guns. The LW Feld Divisi...

Re: Waffen SS Heer MP40's Whats Going On??
Guys would carry MP40s for assault troop actions and patrols, even if they normally carried a Kar98. They were much more manageable in those situations, which is why I suggested above that they might be associated with this sort of activity. As to the camo, if it is Waffen-SS, then the guy probably ...

Re: Review: Swedes at War
I agree, it is an excellent work. I'm on friendly terms with both authors, and am inevitably a bit biased. But I think the book will surprise most readers with large amounts of highly detailed information on numerous conflicts in the era of the World Wars. Even for those primarily interested in Worl...

Re: Former Deutch, Flamish, Danish officers in the rank of W-SS
Kryssing was asked to head the Frikorps by people close to the royal family, who expected him to counter the DNSAP influence on the unit. It turned out that Kryssing didn't have the right personality to smooth over differences between Nazis and anti-Nazis in the unit, and the Nazis did actually muti...

Re: Former Deutch, Flamish, Danish officers in the rank of W-SS
I had a typo above, but the point was clear, I hope. The Sturmbrigade Langemarck had examples of an experienced Ustuf. commanding a company, with a newly-volunteered Hstuf. leading a platoon under him. I think plenty of older officers from most European countries were considered not good enough for ...

Two excellent books on the second shelf from the bottom. :D    There's three excellent books if you count a tall, black one on the bottom shelf  Oh, and I notice Cerebus the Aardvark (Church & State II) mixed in near the World War 2 material, I have had a set-up like tha...

Re: Waffen SS Heer MP40's Whats Going On??
It looks to me like it is all Heer guys, and the guy with camo is wearing Heer-pattern. None have a billed cap, so this is probably the summer of 1942, and the birch trees suggest northern Russia. The MP-40s might be used by a raiding party, so my best guess is that the men are either planning a rai...

Re: Show Us Your Library
I wish I could show off my library, and my many rare books, but 90% of it is in boxes right now, here in the room I rent outside of New York City (I need to update my profile for this site). It took an immense amount of expense and effort to move it all from Colorado to New Jersey! BTW, I'm not the ...

Too bad, I too thought maybe it was a look behind the fiction of Elford, getting at the true story.

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel
Good news, I have now signed a contract with Helion for this book. We don't have a title yet, but it will likely be something that includes the words Wiking, Nordland and Nederland, which will make it clear that the contents will be about those units, rather than just about the Germanic volunteers t...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel
Good news! I have a publisher who wants to publish my Germanic Waffen-SS photobook! Nothing's been signed, so I won't go into details. However, I hope to be done with my work by this summer, so a release date of the summer of 2012 could be reasonable.

Re: Best division in the Waffen SS??
Grossdeutschland spent the last 6 months of the war as basically an infantry division. Most of its armor was detached to give firepower to newly-created offshoot units (PGD Brandenburg, PGD Kurmark, FGD, FBD). The GD Verbände went from one strong division to five weak ones. The core, parent, PGD GD ...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Marc Rikmenspoel
Thanks for the good words, Kelvin, but I think the projects you seek are coming more from Charles Trang. He is preparing a set of books about Wiking, and has another Totenkopf book on the way. This is besides the extensive coverage he has given to LAH. My specialty is the Germanics, and Waffen-SS ph...

Looking for Swiss Waffen-SS photos
I mentioned in the authors topic that I'm beginning to work on a new book. It will be a photo study of the Germanic Waffen-SS. I welcome any photographic assistance that can be provided, but I'm specifically seeking photos of Swiss Waffen-SS officers. Enlisted men would be welcome too, but most of a...
