Timo, "My" list partly builds on a list which circulated on the "Missing Links, Panzer Talk" page some while ago. I've (of course) checked (and double checked) in reference litterature so I'm fairly certain that the names and numbers are correct (though the list hardly claims to ...

Matthall, The general outline of the design is similar aswell as sights and the concept of ammunition (shorter casing, normal rifle caliber round). One could also say that the gas operated mechanism is similar but so are 90% of all assault rifles since '45. The bolt action of the Stg 44 is more like...

MD650, Wilhelm Tieke's "Tragödie um die treue" is THE book in German (now also available in English) on the battles around Narwa and the fate of the III.(Germ.) SS-Pz.Kps. Contains a lot of info, also about Estonian volunteers. I know the Estonians have published several books on the subje...

Col Piron, Yes, that is correct. The red arrow is in fact pointing at the bolt in it's most forward position. The port is only visible if you look at the receiver from beneath. After the round is fired the recoil forces the bolt backwards with the spent casing still attached. When it reaches the eje...

Of course the GPMG only share parts of certain MG 42 construction aspects such as the feeding mechanism and ejection of casings. In other respects the design differs quite substantially...

ColPiron and Charlie, The spent casings from a MG 42 left the reciever downwards (from a "port" underneath the weapons feeding mechanism and breech) sharing the same construction as the the modern GPMG or "MAG". In fact, as you may know, the MG 42 is also basically the same desig...
