Re: Panther Distribution

Hi there, Well, it's not that rediculous: the authorized strength of 73 StuG's was made possible by: 31 StuG in the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung (1 command, 3x 10 StuG's per Batterie) 42 StuG in the Panzer-Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung (3x 14 StuG's per Kompanie). The Panzer-Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung had 3 Panze...

Re: orgaisation of the LVI. Panzerkorps, June 1 1944

Michate, I got the 13 June date from the files of the OQu / 4. Panz.AOK. It was stated that as of 13.6.1944 the LVI. Panzerkorps with the above mentioned organisation was part of the Panzerarmee. The IST-strength of the Korps on 1.6.1944 was: 2.441 Offz., 511 Beamte, 17.820 Uffz., 73.690 Mannsch., 8...

Re: orgaisation of the LVI. Panzerkorps, June 1 1944

John, As I am rebuilding some rooms (including my study room), I don't have my sources at hand. However, I do know that the 2. Armee had 2 "Fester Plätze" on 1.6.1944: Fester Platz Brest (Brest-Litowsk) and Fester Platz Plinsk. The Gr.Btl. Fester is listed in the category Sicherungstruppen...

Re: Kurt C.A. Gilbert

I have received a letter from him once in which he tried to answer some of my questions. In this letter he describes he's still hurt by the fact that he had to leave men behind in Kurland, while the majority of the Abteilung transfered back home. He also wrote that his memory blocked a lot of nasty ...

9. and 10. SS

Hi all, The 9. and 10. SS-Panzer-DIvisionen were mostly build around the mid 1943 and older KStN when they arrived from the eastern front in mid june 1944. I have reports from the 4. Panzerarmee (to which both divisions belonged to until they were transfered to the Western Front) which shows the rea...

Kelvin,

Don't forget that the strength as of 1.7.1944 is really about the strength between 1-30.6.1944.

Re: Need help with notations on gliederung

Tom, 84, 85 and 89 were no static divisions. These divisions were part of the 25. Welle, and were organised with the same Inf.Div. n.A.-KStN as the divisions of the 21. and 22. Welle (349, 352, 353 etc and 271., 272., etc). Most of the static divisions in the west were partially converted (or at lea...

Re: 2.Panzer-Div, PzGr.Komp, Wacht am Rhein

Mike, That IS the actual KStN they were using. The bicycle companies in the I./ 304 were no 1.11.1944 KStN either, simply the 1.4.1944 KStN with changes. Eventually, these changes and changed circumstances led to the appearance of the 1.11.1944 KStN. But Mike, don't put your hopes on this date. Ther...

Re: 2.Panzer-Div, PzGr.Komp, Wacht am Rhein

Mike, The 1.4.1944 set of KStN (f.G.) were all provisionally KStN, open to changes. The KStN 1114 c (gp.) (f.G.) was changed indeed. The 1.4.1944 KStN was replaced with the 1.7.1944 KStN which became the standard KStN in the Panzer-Division 44. Taken directly from a 14.12.1944 report, I can give you...

Vasil, The authorized strength for Frundsberg on 1.6.1944 was: 6 Hummel + 3 Munitionsträger Hummel 12 Wespe, with 4 Munitionsträger Wespe. The real strength for Frundsberg on 1.6.1944 was: 6 Hummel + 2 Munitionsträger Hummel (-1 Munitionsträger) 11 Wespe, with 4 Munitionsträger Wespe. (-1 Wespe) I h...

Re: Interesting snippet but not always easy

I would make something like this out of it: Carrying out the given orders is only then possible when they reach the troops -if they reach them at all due to the inadequate state of the communication lines, which is an ordeal on its own- and the cohesion of those troops is not already lost during the...
