Re: Action at Struth 7 April 1945

As far as I know the plan was to attack south from the Kuellstedt - Wachstedt area via Struth into the direction of Nazza and further towards Eisenach into the flank of the American units to stop their further advance into Central Germany. But with the limited resources available and American superi...

Re: Action at Struth 7 April 1945

The attack was carried out from the area of Buettstedt. Advancing towards Struth were the 2 battalions of Heeres-Pionier-Brigade 688 , bicycle mounted regular infantry armed machine guns, medium mortars and hand-held a/t weapons. They were supported by the remnants of Pz.Jg.Abt. Lambert (about 13 Ja...

An overview covering designation changes of independent GHQ Sturmgeschütz units in 1944/45 can be found here (German language only): http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=3072&hilight=sturmartillerie&hilightuser=258 Further down in the post there is a list of all units...

I'd say yes it is. At least on 30.6.1943 the 78. Sturm-Div. had reported all 26 vehicles still on hand.

Re: ?? on Marder II & III of 4.PzArmee at Kursk

On 30.6.1943 the units in question reported the following number of self-propelled a/t guns on hand: 3. Pz.Div.: 14 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 131) 11. Pz.Div.: 11 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 131) [+3 more shipped from an ordnance depot in Germany on 8.7.1943] 6. Pz.Div.: 5 Marder II (Sd.Kfz. 131) and 1 Marder II (S...

Re: HG division 's question on AFV in Oct 1944

Kelvin,

If you read again those threads carefully you may notice that the Sd.Kfz. 234 went to Fallschirm-Panzergrenadier-Div. 2 HG while the Sd.Kfz. 250/9 went to Fallschirm-Panzer-Div. 1 HG.

Re: 21st Panzer Division Kriegsgliederung 1/6/44

The second set of data is the correct one with the exception of the 3 5cm Pak listed with the regimental units of Pz.Gren.Rgt. 192. Although there is an authorized Pak-Zug shown with the Rgts.Stabskp. it actually had no guns available on 1.6.1944. With regard to mortars on the backside of the Kriegs...

Re: SS Panzerjager Abteilung 12

The whole Abteilung was present in Normandy from the beginning, but it lacked equipment and was not combat ready. On 26.2.1944 two Panzerjäger 38 (t) für 7,5-cm-Pak 40/3 Ausf. M (Sd.Kfz. 138) were shipped from an ordnance depot to SS-Pz.Jg.Abt. 12. They arrived on 2.3.1944 and were picked up by the ...

Re: Status of 9+10th SS PAnzer Division Pre Arnhem

Well, it would be very interesting to learn more about the experiences of Willy with the I./SS-Pz.Rgt. 10. There is not very much information available about the combat history of the Abteilung and any bit of information could help to get a clearer picture. On this website http://www.panther1944.de/...

Re: 14./SS Panzer Grenadier Regiments 25 and 26

Unfortunately this appears to be an error in Mr. Zetterling's book. Actually both companies reported having 12 2cm guns and 4 machine guns. By June 1, 1944 all guns were towed, none self-propelled. Division complained about the lack of 1 ton Zgkw. to convert the guns from towed into s/p. Judging by ...

Re: Status of 9+10th SS PAnzer Division Pre Arnhem

I don't know where Mr. Reynolds found his information, but unfortunately it does nof fit with German records, i.e. it does especially not fit with the status reports filed by the I./SS-Pz.Rgt. 10 from 1.5. until 1.8.1944. The first 4 Panther were shipped from an ordnance depot in Germany to the I./S...

Distribution of mortars, a/t and light Flak guns among subunits of 2. Pz.Div. as of 1.6.1944 8 cm mortars = 43 (8 dropped since 1.5.1944, reason unknown) Div.Begl.Kp. = 2 Pz.Gren.Rgt. 2 = 14 Pz.Gren.Rgt. 304 = 14 Pz.Pi.Btl. 38 = 6 Pz.Felders.Btl. 82 = 7 7,5 cm le.I.G. Re: Status of 9+10th SS PAnzer Division Pre Arnhem

65 years after the actual events this is the very first time I heard or read about SS-Pz.Rgt. 10 gathering or even 'stealing' Panthers from other units (BTW the 21. Pz.Div. didn't have any) during the summer of 1944 and using them during their retreat form France. If I'm not completely mistaken appa...

Re: JgdPz.IV/48 & PzW.42 Maultier in the Ardennes?

I just learned that the (Volks-)Werfer-Brigade 7, 8 and 9 participated in the Ardennes offensive. So at best, i.e. assuming all their (Sf.) batteries were still at full strength by mid December 1944, there could have been 6 x 8 = 48 15cm Panzerwerfer 42 available. Unfortunately I have no clue about ...
