I'm with Rolf on this one . . . some of the earlier Wotan novels ignited my interest in military affairs, particularly German ones. At that time, World War Two was relatively recent history and writing books from the German point of view was controversial -- particulary in my native England. Kessler...

Hi Tom,
Believe it or not, I misplaced your book not long after I started it. Hoping it would turn up, I did not purchase another copy. So I can properly respond to your email, I have bought another copy from authorhouse.com and will respond soon.

Arnhem
You generally cannot go wrong with any of the "After the Battle" books -- they are loaded with photos. However, they can be very expensive. Unless you have unlimited funds, you might want to start with the following: 1. Robert Kershew's book "It Never Snows in September" is the b...

well, sometimes out of print books are not that expensive, if you get them at second hand bookstores in London. My friend bought his version of "Campaign in Russia" by Leon Degrelle, printed in the 1980s, now rare, for only a few pounds in the London Second Hand bookstores, while on Amazo...

Gunner Asch novels by Hans Hellmut Kirst
I stumbled across this series of German soldier novels on Amazon. There are quite a few in the series. Can anyone give a specific recommendation? In other words, are they decent war novels in the same league as Willi Heinrich or Gert Ledig (my personal favorite) or are they pulp like Leo Kessler?

Great Chart
Thanks. That chart is fantastic.
Do you know what the dividing line would be between the Eastern and South-Eastern Front referenced in the chart?

OB
Thanks.
I assume OB Suedwest is Italy. Quite frankly, I had no idea that over a 1/3 of the Axis Divsions fighting in the West were located in Italy. That comes as a surprise to me.

Number of Axis Divisions in Each Theater
Can anyone quickly tell me or point me to a resource where I can determine the number of Axis Divisions the Western Allies were fighting at any given time as opposed to the number the Soviets were fighting on the Eastern Front? I am particulary interested in the relative numbers of divisions in Dece...

Stalingrad - The Air Battle - by Christer Bergstrom
Does anyone have any information on this new title? This is the same author who wrote the fantastic Black Cross Red Star: Everything for Stalingrad. Does anyone know if this new book is just taken from the larger Black Cross Red Star volume? From the publisher: "The huge air battles that took p...

Dear Friends -- we do this for love, not money. If I had to total the time I have spent on research, writing, proofreading, and discussion, it would be years of my life. Would I change a thing -- heck no!

Island of Fire
In my opinion, Island of Fire belongs in any university library that has even a rudimentary section on the Eastern Front. It is, quite simply, a masterpiece of military history, on a battle we pretend to know much more about than we really do. Proof: cite one extended account where the struggle for ...
