Writer "Antony Beevor"
Just got "D Day " from this author, and i believe it's probably as good as two the two other books i've read: "The Battle of Berlin" and "Stalingrad". His narratives have a very human touch and lots of details. It's common to find personal accounts on his books and lots...

Re: SS-Sturmmann Alves, Erich SS-Div. “Das Reich”
I've found new info about SS Sturmmann Erich Alves, he was awarded an Iron Cross on the 08/01/1942, more than a year before fighting in the battle of Kharkov. By the 21/02/1943 he had already managed to destroy 13 soviet tanks and was "working" hard just southwest of Kharkov. There is a ph...

Who wrote the Kriegstagebush?
While reading Kriegstagebush and Gefechtsberichte, i've noticed the letters "Ia" before the reports, and after seeking info about what it mean, i realized it mean't that these reports are written by some officer in the units command (Stab). Who was that officer? Was his mission just to wri...

Re: The 250 ID - Krasny Bor 1943.
I had seen those names in a forum, in a list of 286 prisioners from the Blue Division, that had returned in 1954 in the ship "Semiramis". Well, i digged deeper, and found it also on a newspaper (La Vanguardia 30/03/1954), and guess what, its true, these two guys were from buenos aires and ...

tigre,
does the name Enrique Piñeiro Díaz ring a bell to you?
I've read that name in a prisioners list of the blue division, and in it stated that he was from buenos aires.

Re: 250 I.D. on NARA
Thank you very much Howard, this is the part when the blue division was settling in the frontline, near Leningrad. I'll soon start working on the documents of the Krasny Bor Battle, and i'll share it with the forum. Krasny Bor was the great moment of truth for this division, in 4 days of vicious com...

Re: My trip to NARA (College Park)
Congratulations on that great post MD, reading it, was almost like one could see it for itself, great description. It would also be great if there were a posting about the british archives, and why not canadian, russian or italian? There are members of the forum in this and other countries directly ...

250 I.D. on NARA
Hi to all, i'm doing the translation of a NARA roll on the famous blue division, and i am having some dificulties with this paragraph: "Die division erhält den Korpsbefehl Nr.2010/41, in dem die folgende Abschnittsgrenze zwischen der Division und der 126 I.D. bekanntgegeben wird: Saklinje (126)...

Re: The 250 ID - Krasny Bor 1943.
They were few, and indeed, very elusive...the first one that i discovered was a man called Joao Rodrigues Junior, he was a gardner in his previous civil life in a small town near lisbon. He was born in 1916, wen't to spain to fight against the republicans, and ended up in the spanish foreign legion....

Re: NEW DATABASE ONLINE
Congratulations Peter K.,
the site is very interesting, and in my opinion is one of the best of its kind.
I also like www.uboat.net a lot, but your site has themes that usually don't get much atention, like the KG smaller vessels.
Keep up the good work

Re: What single weapon was the most crucial to Germany?
Note: MG3, being the modern version of the MG42. The diference is mainly in the caliber, that was NATO 7,62 ont the MG3 version.

Re: What single weapon was the most crucial to Germany?
While being a simple a direct question, no answer can be simple or direct. In my opinion, there can be multiple answers, and all have it's good reasons. I served on the portuguese army, not many years ago, first at EPI, the Infantry School at Mafra, where i got my military training, and where among ...
