Re: Re:
Hi Rich Useful and well informed data as usual. If I may... Can you add the numbers for the 777th TB to the list? Steven Zaloga gives 16 Medium in his latest book (Armored Thunderbolt) but he is mute on the Light tanks. TIA Hi! Sorry, I'm moving and everything is packed away. I don't think the 777t...

Re: Normandy Sitmaps
Secondly ... thanks "Rich" for posting the map. As mentioned above I am looking for a copy of that map in color and complete, in order to confirm a date and also possibly confirm that the batteries around Ste Marie du Mont (two batteries in circle) are part of this Artillerie-Regiment. Ma...

Re: LXXXVIII corps units, Holland 1944
One odd thing I wonder about: I found a reference to 19th Pz in the anlagen and your post, and I have to wonder why the Germans didnt use it considering the desperate situation. Mad Dog From one of my notes, "The division began arriving on 24 May for refitting, then returned to the Ostheer beg...

Re: LXXXVIII corps units, Holland 1944
Thanks Jan-Hendrik, but I already have those links. I am also in one of those threads ("Tom"). thanks, Mad Dog Hope this helps some. Approximate organization of WBN and LXXXVIII A.K. circa 1 June 1944. I'm afraid not as much detail as in some other entries, except for those units that wen...

Re: anlagen request
As part of trying to figure out what is what in my files , this is an example of something that I almost-but-dont-quite-get. anlagen.jpg The paragraph seems to read: Since the beginning of the invasion, the situation in France..." then I lose track. Mostly I am trying to figure out what "...

Re: Normandy Sitmaps
Any advice on what I should try ordering next? Cheers, Paul Johnston Hi Paul, Sorry, no, AFAIK the next maps available deal with the LXXXI AK situation circa 9-10 August. I believe that the sequence of maps for July similar to those for June may have been destroyed, since they would have been micro...

Re: Breakout and Pursuit
I am, but then I'm a narrative historian not one of you brainy chaps. :D As a whole, the American ones are streets ahead of anything the Brits produced - all of them are very readable, although Harrison's is probably the hardest going. Given a choice between Blumenson and L F Ellis, I'll take the f...

Re: Breakout and Pursuit
IMHO the very best official history of either world war, Martin Blumenson's Breakout & Pursuit, is available online now, in toto , for free. :[] You're serious? :D B&P is probably one of the poorer volumes in the series, skimming rather lightly over a complex subject and covering about 10 w...

Re: Normandy Sitmaps
Hi, Have you seen a map that shows the deployment of the Artillerie-Regiment 191 of 91. Luftlande-Division in the spring of 1944, among the Normandy maps? Will this do? :D Okay, sorry, I guess nevermind, I can never get an image to upload here, but I posted it to AHF a while ago, I'll see if...

Re: Normandy Sitmaps
I'm afraid you will be disappointed. There are some relating to LXXXI A.K. dispositions in August-October in 1591, but little else.PaulJ wrote:I have now ordered rolls 1569 and 1571 in the hopes of finding July and August.

Re: Steve Zaloga--Is He a Competant Author?
Unless I am mistaken, 21st infantry possessed the normal three battalion structure found in infantry regiments in the Korean War. But, I fail to see your point, Michael. Was an element of 21st Infantry attached to 3rd I.D? I''ll have to research this, but it doesn't detract from my overall analysis...

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design
I would propose that you use the baseline value of what the expected running rate was. For example, if an M4 battalion was expected to have 95% running from a purely mechanical perspective, then use a 0.95 multiplicative factor. If a Tiger Bn was expected to only have 50% running, then use 0.5. Now...

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design
Well, in theory, a vehicular modifier should be simple. A M4 sherman would rate high - perhapts as a baseline, and other vehicles would have to be judged against it. Now, granted, for most vehicles you wouldnt have hard data, but for such vehicles as Tigers, King Tigers, JagdTigers etc, you could g...

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design
Er... no I didn't but. .. I suspect it ended up getting lumped in under 'national x-factors': Dupuy's curve fitting fudge number. CEV is not a "curve fitting fudge factor" since the same phenomena can be demonstrated without using OLI's or the QJM/TNDM methodology. Or by looking at the in...

Re: Use of OLI/QJM in wargame design
I just found some oddities in the OLI system and tried asking in the Dupuy Institute forums, but those are mostly dead. Sorry, we aren't "dead", in fact, we're rather too busy to be a corpse. :D I saw your posts, but neither I nor Chris (who would actually give you the better answer) have...
