No, Gavmeister, I sure don't know where to find any online, and I don't have a scanner, but on page 194 of Feist and Culver's book on the Panther, they have a pic of a track-changing job in progress, and there's a series of comic-book-style drawings of this operation on page 23 of the Japanese softc...

Paul Lakowski wrote: The fact that 1/2 of all the rockets were produced in 1940 is probably because they intended to use them on the Maginote line? That sounds reasonable to me, Paul. No matter how enthusiastic they may have been about the panzers, the German high command most likely didn't want to ...

Good point, Dackel. Modern MBTs do tend to weigh about as much as the Tiger did, with twice the power or even more. And without the armor upgrade, the Leopard II rather resembles the old Tiger, with that squarish turret front.

Hello, I thought I'd refresh this topic with some info from Tom Jentz's book on the Panther. On page 147, he mentions the 38 Panthers spoken of by Martin, which he says were shipped by rail between 5/29 and 6/5/44. In addition, 20 more were sent between 9/18 and 9/21/44, and a final batch of 10 were...

Much as I admire the Desert Fox, I'll gladly admit that there were better commanders than he in the WWII German Army; Manstein for one. Anyway, let's not speak badly of the dead unless he was really a bad character.

Excuse me, Fox, but Paul Lakowski was speaking of artillery rocket launchers, not infantry anti-tank rocket launchers.

Fox, shotguns were used by the USA in WWII, but so far as I know, they were used only to guard prisoners with in the ETO. They were front-line combat weapons only in the Pacific, used by both the Army and the Marines.

Rich, I'm mighty sure that the Panther had a similar system for replacing a track to the one you describe for the Tiger. Panthers had a "track cable" wound around the wooden jack rest block on the starboard side of the vehicle, and this cable was attached to the drive sprocket and used to ...

I'd never seen a picture of an AMX-50 before; thank'ee kindly for posting them! Kind of resembles a cross between a Panther and an AMX-13. Too bad it never made production. Patrick, I believe that the interleaved road-wheel design died with the end of WWII. I would say it's just too much trouble hav...

Were I a Landser, in the early-war period, I'd want an MP-38 or MP-40; in the late-war period, an MP-44.

Just my two pfennigs.

Paul
