Re: How to Find a Good NA Researcher
Debbie- I too have heard very good things about Westmoreland. Unfortunetly with NARA researchers, very few have detailed backgrounds in all types of records (who could!). If you need any aerial photo and cartographic help let me know. I have helped a good deal of folks around the world, some for onl...

Re: archival maps
Today I came across a set of German aerial photos taken in the Army Group Center area in 1943 which were taken/used for mapping purposes. Many of these photos were gridded with 1km lines. So I guess the 1km increment is correct.

Re: archival maps
Hmm, 1000 meter increments seems to makes sense, especially with artillery plotting.

Prochorowka Italian POW camp June 43
In a little known place called Prochorowka (haha...! ) I have a series of German aerial recon photos taken on June 21st 1943 by the 2(F)11 of the VII Flg. Korp conducting Soviet defensive position recon for Citadel in which among other things the Germans annotated a wooded ravine site 7 km so...

OK...so nobody on any site seems to know anything about this unit. Lost to history and time I guess.

Re: archival maps
From what I understand the most commonly used German topo map was the 1:300,000 scale. This grid system was figured out by the allies after the war and although I dont know what it is I think all the documents are held at the UK National Archives. I am sure there are other places to find it as well....

I think I have a few German Aerial photos over the city taken in 1943. These are scans of the original prints from NARA.

Re: Normandy Sitmaps
Ah yes the unit maps. As your pointed out there are many thousands of maps in the unit rolls from Division to Armee level. None of the maps I am working with are these, but the color OKH maps held in the cartographic division, which have not been digitized or microfilmed and can only be scanned or p...

John-
It appears random, no set time frame or patterm. Sometimes it is every few days, other months apart. I have seen them on many sets... Africa, West, East, and smaller sets in the Balkans/SE Europe.

Few - less then 15% of the maps have the paper attachments to the maps, but yes when they are present I always scan them in, and will continue to do so as they are a key part of that days map/Lage.

Re: Normandy Sitmaps
Good news. Within a couple weeks the Normandy map set will be done. I researched them and found a few different sets covering Normandy. There are general sitmaps covering France from late 1940 early June 1944, then on and after June 14th 1944 there are specific Normandy sitmaps, and other odd ones c...

This may not be the right place for this but I need some help locating the modern/current place name for the town in Belarus that was called (in German at least) Beljajewo. Thanks-
