Hi,
AFAIK, distribution would be 50/50 AP/HE on panzer. Panzerjagers and Jagpanzers may lean toward AP. However, availability of ammo types is the issue.

Re: Volksgrenadier Divisions ?
Hi, 1) Several divisions were raised/rebuilt as larger Typ 1944 Infantry Divisions, then re-christened VGD. 2) Manpower sources for the VGD were: "experienced troops" from shattered divisions. These were often support personel, not front line troops; new men, age 16-60, some with only 5-6 ...

Helmut,
Since no one has provided a definitive answer, I will supply what (little) info I have:
Several Divisional Commanders were skilled pilots.

The VGD were not "authorized" to have any SP artillery, and my records do not show that 560 VGD had any Hummel.

Re: Tobruk bunkers
Hi, This is a small type of bunker, based on an Italian design seen in the fighting around Tobruk in 1942. The Germans modified the basic design and had a whole array of types. Do a search for "Tobruk" and "Ringstand", their formal name, and you will find lots of information. Als...

MadDog,
Also: "Battle of the Bulge-Hitler's Ardennes Offensive 1944-1945" by Danny S. Parker, (Combined Books Inc, 1991) mentions the 122mm were short on ammunition.

Re: German ammunition for 122m (R) guns
Mad Dog,
Finally found some reference in Dupuy's "Hitler's Last Gamble", page 516, describing the 408th Volksartillerie Korp, he mentions " the 122mm and 152 mm pieces were captured Russian equipment with little ammunition available".
Sorry it took so long....

Re: German ammunition for 122m (R) guns
Mad Dog,
I was waiting for someone with a more authorative response, but.....While I can't quote sources right now, I also recall reading somewhere, of shortages of the Russian 122mm ammo during late 1944, on the western front.
Happy Holidays,
Rand

Hello everyone,
I agree, I can't find any indication Flakpanzer 38's were assigned to any VGD, so it must indicate SP.
Thanks for the updated Gliederung. Any info is much appreciated.
And nice work at Sturmpanzer.com!

MadDog,
The the Nov 12, 1944 gliederung you provided shows 9 fully tracked flak guns in the PzJgr Abt. Any idea if these were Flakpanzer 38(t)?
Thanks again,
Rand

Hi all,
Interesting discussion. Anyone have any details on manpower stength, numbers and types of weapons, before and after figures for the German Divs? Especially interested in 12VGD.
Many thanks,
Rand

Re: Daily doings of German soldiers
Hi, Since no one has responded, I will share what little I can. Troops from one div in France sometimes helped on the local farms. I would presume that was early on, as later reports show the men marching into the nearby forests to cut timbers for landing bech defenses after thier normal guard shift...

Re: Did the MP-38 perform better than the MP-40 in combat?
Warrior,
I've read that the MP-38, produced for 2 years, tended to jam if fired in bursts of more than 5-10 rounds. I am not sure if the MP-40 overcame that problem. Receiver housing, stocks and magazines differed.
