Re: Who Needs a Publisher?
My personal experience with (Dutch and Belgian) bookstores weren't that great. They payed after a few weeks (or even moths) and wanted a discount. If it's for the money, bookstores are a sort of pain. My estimate is that there are about a 1,000 bookstores in Holland. They want to sell books which ca...

Re: Eric Lefevre's book on the Bad Reichenhall murders
Out of curiosity this regards a murder of German soldiers by Americans? I'm guessing by the looks of the cover... I think it would be an interesting read. Mansal Nope, French soldiers (on the side of De Gaulle) shot French members of 'Charlemagne' after the war was ended. The whole question (who an...

Re: Who Needs a Publisher?
I'm beginning to think that the answer lies in the money earned. I'm not sure about that. I've earned a few bucks selling my book by myself. If it was for the money, I should publish every book by myself. BUT! I did the writing (1000 hours or more?), have to do the selling (writing emails, answerin...

Re: Who Needs a Publisher?
Good decision, John! For me the question was this: should I do it myself (do the investment and get the profit if the book sells), or should I contact a professional publisher? For me, both have advantages and disadvantages. WHen I did the first run of the book about Dutchmen in the NSKK, I was like...

Re: Who Needs a Publisher?
A few months ago I was asked to write down the whole story of my search for my grandfather. At first I wanted to decline. I wanted to do the whole process by my self. I gave the idea a few thoughts. Coming days the book will go to the publisher. 'All' I did was write the story I always wanted to wri...

Re: can anyone help id wat unit my grandfather was in please
I just checked, when I was searching for my grandfather, it took the WASt only two (!) months to find the first information. A second request took them longer (also about my grandfather), about eight or nine months.

Re: African German Soldiers?
There seem to be black africans who served as drivers for the NSKK, but so far I haven't seen any pics or evidence so far. I just heard the rumour.

Re: grand father served in norway
At least you got a start! Check the infantshome too, they might have got some information. And try everyone who might have known you're grandfather. Don't forget: never give up! (BTW, I've been in the same postion. I've talked to a granduncle, he told me our grandfather was from Hannover. It proved ...

Re: grand father served in norway
I'd say, gather as much info as you can get, also from your family. Get a birthcertificate of your mother/father, it might help. Contact those villages, get in touch and see if they got some more information. There is a Norwegian society of German/Norwegian children. Contact them too. As soon as you...

Re: 860th, 861st Grenadier Regiment of the 347. ID
Bergen (NH) was occupied too by the 347. ID, I found a small remark about it. Since GFM Rommel visited Noord Holland in 1944. He did visit Bergen then and spoke with officers of either 860 or 861.

Re: Zur Geschichte der Deutschen Kriegsgefangenen (Erich Maschke
I've seen the Maschke series come along a few times at eBay.de, not as a complete serie though. A volume 'does' a few Euros: 10 euro at most. Maybe it helps? Anyway, if you can talk German, reading isn't that hard then.

Re: Military Records Dienstella
If they got it, they'll send you the info. In my case, I was wondering if my grandfather received an Eastern front medal and the why for the wound badge and his Infanterie assault badge. They couldn't tell, since there weren't any records about these specific questions. Anyway, maybe you're lucky?
