Re: looking for Survey of Allied Tank Casualties in World War II
I can give you the exact details if you want to order a copy from Carlisle. I have located the Institute's copy of "Survey of Allied Tank Casualties in world War II" by Alvin D. Coox and L. Van Loan Naisawald (Operations Research Office number ORO-T-117; our library Call Number UD570.1 .C6...

Re: looking for Survey of Allied Tank Casualties in World War II
You have probably seen parts of it because it forms the basis for most conclusions on the subject. It is a general overview that lists losses over a time period (and not all are total losses either) If you are looking for detailed Unit losses for battles or campaigns then you are out of luck. There ...

Re: looking for Survey of Allied Tank Casualties in World War II
Sorry for not replying to your message (I was going to do it 'tomorrow'!) but I have managed to track the original down and as soon as I get the time will be ordering a copy from Carlisle. It will be a photocopy of the original. When I got in touch with Naisawald a while back he informed me it was c...

Re: Villers Bocage:where is the third Stuart tank?
You have been asking for a while about this Stuart. Can I ask why you are so interested? The photos you post above are of 2 Stuarts. The first pic is one of the 2 destroyed on the road into Villers from Caen. The 'third' Stuart (i.e the one Taylor says is behind the other 2) is most probably on the ...

Re: "Tiger" by Rüdiger Warnick and Stephan Cazenave
A simple check in the records of 23rd Hussars would have shown it to be impossible. I think those who repeat it have no interest in anything other than how it shows the 'superiority' of the Tiger. It seems a common fault. Reynold's also mentions it in his book 'Sons Of The Reich'. He repeats it exac...

Re: "Tiger" by Rüdiger Warnick and Stephan Cazenave
For Normandy the book relies heavily on the diary of 2nd kp SS 102. In fact nearly every book written that deals with 102's Normandy exploits seems to be based on this document. I have not yet had time to read (and translate!) the book but I am sad to see the claim that Will Fey destroyed 15 Sherman...

Re: Beevor´s D-day book reviews
Finnish military historian and staff Colonel Sampo Ahto has repeatedly demonstrated how German lines were even more thinly manned than Finnish lines were in Karelia. And the latter were very weak to start with. The Finns had more than 10 Panzer Divisions and 3 Tiger Abteilung in their 'thinly' held...
