To Kameraden, Happy to respond. My stepfather was Polish to his boot straps. Proud as you can get. Proud of his Polish heritage, proud of his family, proud of his boys, me and my two half brothers. He hated no one. However he hated war, war for whatever reason. He put the blame for conflicts squarel...

4/5 My father was killed in WWII, 6 weeks after I was born. My step father was Polish, who never said a bad word about anyone and had respect for my father, who he met whilst a POW in Germany. Stepfather always encouraged me to look past the propaganda and look for the truth. I think this is a great...

Wilhelm Herold - Knights Cross Holder
Jason do you have any more information on this person. He was my fathers Stabsfeltwebel etc., eventually becoming the Company OIC. My mother is wondering if he is still alive? Or what eventually happened to him.

Jason I know I'm not posting this in the right place, but I'm not sure where it's supposed to go. Perhaps you can put it where it should be. I'm about to embark on a new project. Both my grandfathers served in the German Army in WWI. Where is a good starting point to find their military histories? F...

Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Gold
Does anyone know if this award was made to all KIA/MIA? My father was posted MIA and later officially declared dead. There is no indication in his records that he was awarded this award. Yet apparantly from info. I have it would appear that it was awarded for amongst other things, "Death in the...

Hi Sis, My mother is still alive, so there were not too many surprises. It just helped put him in a time and place for me and made him more real. My stepfather also insisted right from the start that photos be kept and that my sister and I retain our own name in order to honour our father. Of course...

Nurnberg - Hungarian Artillery
I have been told that the Hungarian Artillery units defending Nurnberg in 1945 refused to surrender, fighting to the last. Can anyone collaborate this?
Seems they were a long way from home at that stage of the war.

Hi Sis, Spot on. It's a persons military history log. Contains details of the person, draft details, labour service, service details, charges, wounds, conduct, awards, battles, promotions etc. In other words a full record of the individual. As I've stated though there are bits missing, I suppose the...

Hello again, You should ask for a copy of his Wehrstammbuch. This runs to 45 pages. You need to be persistent. When I first made enquiries over 20 years ago, I was told that there were no records, apart from his awards. I gave up. However as time went by I got quite angry at the way the German Gover...
