Re: The 8th Waffen-SS Cavalry Division
This thread is indicative of what I used to love about Feldgrau: a meaningful and polite discussion between two members about an issue. I am much better informed about the subject than I was before. Thank you. Best wishes.

Re: SS Unit Formations And Organization
Hello:
The organization was the same; just different terminology. Up until 1940 the Waffen SS used the following terminology for their sub-division level units:
Rotte-section
Schar-squad
Trupp-platoon
Sturm-company
Sturmbann-Battalion
Standarte-regiment

Sounds interesting, Antonio. In your research did you run across Professor John Hondros' work on the German occupation of Greece?? I believe he was consulted about Kurt Waldheim's activities in Greece. He was a professor of mine many years ago!! Best wishes.

Hello CNE:
Since you have the exact designation of what you want to purchase, why not call the NARA and order them by phone?? It is much easier than trying to wade one's way through the NARA website, or sending a letter. Best wishes.

Welcome Kelly!! I would think that most vets of GD would be quite old by now, but you will be very interested in our sister site www.feldgrau.com, because under the HEER section you will find the memoirs of Rudi Salvermoser, a GD vet. Rudi had an interesting war to say the least, having guarded the ...

Re: Panzer Division "Hermann Göring", July 1943
Hello: The commander of the division in Sicily, Paul Conrath, was incensed to learn that some of his troops ran rather than fight!! The unit was poorly trained and made up of various Luftwaffe personnel; it had no combat experience, so I would say "Green" would be about right. Morale would...
