Hello: I am not overly familiar with the fighting around Caen, but you will be able to find accounts in English from the Brits or Canadians who fought against the 21PzD in that region. We have discussed several books on this site involving the battle for Caen from the Allied side; try our search fun...

Re: Operation Dragoon, Le Muy, Chateau Les Serres

In general the German forces your Grandfather fought against were probably from the 148th Reserve Division or the 242nd ID. There is also a good chance he was fighting against landsers assigned to LXII Armee Korps Headquarters. I am continuing to work on this to see if I can be more specific. Best w...

Re: NARA access from Germany

Andrea, here is a link to the captured German documents at NARA; there are Luftwaffe records available on the page, but I am not sure they contain what you are looking for: https://www.archives.gov/research/captured-german-records/foreign-records-seized.html#other Here is a more general link: https:...

Re: NARA access from Germany

Hello Andrea:
I have always had problems finding things on the NARA website, even when I know exactly what I want!! My suggestion to you is to write to them, or perhaps a phone call. Let me see if I have any luck finding what you are after; perhaps I can send you a link. Best wishes.

Re: no one stop the spam ?

Hello Simon: As you know these sites are only as good as the members who inhabit them. There has to be people to ask questions and more experienced members to answer them. And a "thank you" to those who help should be mandatory. You and Prosper and Tigre, to name a few are keeping things g...

Re: Arno Gordt KIA Info neded

Hello Andy: Here is a link which will help: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/InfErsBat/InfErsBat105-R.htm As you will see Btl. 105 provided training for recruits sent to different units during the course of the war. He was probably killed in one of those units. If I were to guess, he...

Re: 5th Grenadier Regiment?!

Hello AJ: After an abortive attempt, here is a link to information on Infanterie Ersatz Bn. 338: I believe this was his initial unit in the German military. He may have been transferred later. http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/InfErsBat/InfErsBat338-R.htm I will try to find more. Best...
