Re: Books on the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest and Aachen.

I second the recommendation of The Siegfried Line Campaign by McDonald. I have a 1967 edition of this book that I took with me on battlefield explorations in the mid-1970s when I lived in Germany. Using the excellent maps that came with the book along with the detailed battle descriptions I was able...

Re: Cantigny

That's great information! Thanks for posting. The 41st Infantry Div. association is about to open a new and reportedly very large museum about 15 miles south of Portland, OR which I am eager to see.

I recommend that you contact Duncan Rodgers with Helion & Co in the UK and discuss your project. Bender Publishing in the US is also very good, but a little slow to complete publishing projects.

Re: Mansal Denton - "Mansal D"

I disagree. A Life sentence in prison is an appropriate punishment for child molesters and meth addicts and the same thing applies to people who steal documents such as Mansal Denton has done. By stealing these documents and selling to collectors for personal gain researchers are forever deprived of...

Re: Mansal Denton - "Mansal D"

From the link in Ron's post it appears that Mansal Denton is now facing life in prison if convicted.

Reenactors

I have never cared much for reenactors. The story below in the Army Times is excellent along with the vet comments at the end.

I thought the comment from one vet who suggested dropping the bum into Afghanistan was brilliant.

Kirill - That is quite an impressive archive that you have there. 15,000 rolls! Are these all DVDs or are some microfilm?
Do you also have the T-175 series?

Re: New Peiper book by Westemeier???

This was the first I have heard of this book. 98 Euros seems like a lot to pay for such a book. I believe that this makes the third book that Westemeier has written about Peiper since 2006 and find it odd that an author would devote so much time to a single person. But since Westemeier didn't get th...

Re: Meetings with „Wiking” Division Veterans

Earlier in this thread I wrote about a birthday reunion that I attended back in October 1995 with some veterans from the Nachrichten Abteilung of the SS-VT from back in 1935. I recently learned that the former Hauptsturmführer Günter Liersch died on October 22, 2011. Earlier this year the head of th...

Re: books on 2nd SS Pz div

"Kameraden bis zum Ende" in the English version is NOT recommended. It is one of the absolute worst translations I have ever seen and I don't know how anyone could read it to the end. It appears to have been translated by someone completely lacking any knowledge of military terminolgy. I h...

You can find specific details from reading the DKiG recommendations in Mark Yerger's 2-volume treatment of the "Das Reich" DKiG holders. Highly recommended.

Re: Freedom Betrayed by Herbert Hoover

Jukka Juutinen said below, a very typical illness affecting Americans: a fanatical belief in the ultimate superiority of "the American way of life". And whenever an advocate of a society that is based on consumerism criticizes another ideology for "materialism", I don't know whet...
