The Leibstandarte was an armed political force in the 1930s without elite guards status in a military sense. The heir to the guard tradition in the German armed forces was, if anything, the Grossdeutschland Regiment, not the Leibstandarte. Tja Sid...that is your personal opinion bar every real evid...

No Sid, not everybody joining the SS was an political animal. Choosing the SS was also a career move par excellence, especially for ambitious people who didn't had the necessary background to make a career in the Wehrmacht! Remember Kurt Sametreiter and Co? One of the veterans said it....he decided ...

... It's quite a stretch to suggest that von Stauffenberg, who had no influence in 1932, could have "enabl[ed] Adolf Hitler". ... See? That is what I wanted to point out all along... Yes, Stauffenbers outspoken support of Adolf Hitler seeing as enabling him is a stretch...but it's also a ...

...But there is one key difference. Von Stauffenburg was never an Adjutant to, and thus an important administrative functionary of, the Reichsfuehrer-SS und Chef der deutschen Polizei. ... Agreed! Another key difference: Peiper never spoke out for Hitler against Hindenburg officially during the vot...

For me it is bigot if two people are judged differently even if they led comparable lives and did comparable deeds...
I'm sorry if I stepped on toes with that but that's how I see it and what is happening here.

I tried to constrain the same question in several, short sentences.
I'm sorry if you still are not able to grasp it or to answer it....

(But since I don't think you got brain-amputated over night I rather think
you are trying to avoid a clear answer! Your choice!) 8)

Jan-Hendrik wrote:Have you ever read a Stauffenberg-Bio by a serious researcher?

Jan-Hendrik
What do you mean?

A bio where is denied that he from the start was a supporter of Hitler (he must have read MEIN KAMPF, right?)

Why such a generousity for Stauffenberg and no mercy for Peiper I ask...

Jan-Hendrik
Is it?

I just find it very interesting how a high ranking follower of Hitler is seen now (dare we say "white washed"?) compared to the witch hunt Peiper has to endure...isn't it? 8)

...Just "knowing" something is not a crime. Peiper's involvement, minimal as it MAY have been, was complicit. ... That is bigot! :? Peiper KNEW but even his minimal involvment as an adjutant makes him a criminal but Stauffenberg KNEW too and him FIGHTING actively for the system as an offi...

Stauffenberg was a follower of Hitler and promoted him on his way to power....he fighted in Poland...do you want to say Stauffenberg knew NOTHING???

I just think it would be more honest and fair to cut Peiper the same slack as Stauffenberg enjoys!

That's exactly the problem Sid! All is seen with hindsight today and Stauffenberg WAS close to the Nazis and their ideas from the beginning! And he did everything to ensure the Nazis and Hilter were successful! „Im April 1932 sprach sich Stauffenberg anlässlich der Reichspräsidentenwahl gegen Paul v...

Why Peiper is seen as a knight by many? Why is there a movie filmed about Stauffenberg right now..who from the beginning was close to the Nazis and their ideas? Who only startet to object as the things got wrong? Why do many people see him as a hero? I know about people (Poles too) who absolutely ob...
