Re: Question about the Distribution of Heavy Equipment

Hello Werner: I am hardly an expert but I would imagine there was not a set formula on how or where to place AT and AA guns. Usually the placement of support weapons is designed to cover likely areas of approach for attacking enemy forces. Even though on the plains of Russia the terrain was mostly f...

Re: German veterans

Hello K:
Your best bet, if in fact Herr Koschorrek is still alive, would be to write to the publisher asking them to forward your letter. Publishers usually have contact info for their authors. It might be wise to include an envelope to aid the publisher in sending your letter on. Best wishes.

Re: Location of Hill 1008 in the Vosges, near Rochesson

Hello Darwin: Hill 1008 is La Piquante Pierre; if you search for La Piquante Pierre on Google you will find many pictures detailing the terrain in the area. The author A. Harding Ganz has a new book out about the 11PzD, which will probably be of interest to you. I hope this has been some help to you...

Hello Kaiser:
Your uncle was a lucky man!! Good for him. I cannot imagine the omnipresent sense of doom hanging over those folks trapped in that region. Best wishes.

Re: Location of Hill 1008 in the Vosges, near Rochesson

Hello Darwin: I found a Hill 1008 in the Rochesson area. It is 4.5 to 5 Km slightly southeast of Rochesson, and about 800m slightly northwest of La Barre and the D-34 AutoRoute. It either is, or in the region of La Piquante Pierre. The following link will take you to a French website which has good ...

Re: Location of Hill 1008 in the Vosges, near Rochesson

Hello Darwin: I believe German military maps recorded the height of terrain by meters; thus you would be looking for a hill of that height in the Rochesson area. Finding the military maps you are looking for might be difficult; the US National Archives, or the German Archives would probably have wha...

Re: 7th Fallshcirmjager division

Hello Kurt: If you give me some time, I will search my sources for 7 FJD info. I cannot promise anything, but I will try. In the mean time, see what you can find at: http://www.lexikonderwehrmacht.de/ It will let you know what 7 FJD was doing from the period you are interested in until the end of th...

Re: My father's war years

Alex: A great place to start is with Lexicon der Wehrmacht: http://www.lexikonderwehrmacht.de/ You should be able to determine the higher formations your father's Abteilungs belonged to and their approximate locations at various times. If you hit a road-block, just ask for help!! Best wishes.

Re: Best book on the Italian Campaign?

Klaus: There are some great books on the Italian Campaign, but it is very difficult to find that one cohesive account. I am sure the US Army has a campaign history from the US perspective, but how good it might be, I cannot tell you. They tend to vary in quality according to who wrote them. THE MEDI...
