Re: Helmet ww1 : Stahlehlm mdl 16 cam

Wow. That must have been some nice dry place where this thing was buried. If not, it is in too good a condition to be a WWI "dig". Looks like a well restored WWi or early WWII piece. But i am not a collector, and could be wrong. B.T.W. I have a as new Hitler Youth knife from personal colle...

Re: SS-Kriegsberichter Standarte Organization

Hi Andy,
No, dazznottim . I was wrong to say that he fell in Russia. ( got the wrong feedback) He was missing in action for some time, but survived the war and died in the late 50's in Holland.
Thanks for your input though.

Re: Fliegerhorst Deelen

Got the map, and am more confused than ever :? "Googled" it and got even more confused. Obviously my brain is coming apart at the seams. :( But . . . the good news is: working with Jaap, we probably will come to the bottom of it. There must be some explanation, somewhere, somehow. Sta...

Re: Fliegerhorst Deelen

nota bene
Sorry for the typos people; at almost 85, and now using the hunt and peck system, I miss a key once in a while.
Getting old is the pitts, young people could not handle it :x

Re: SS-Kriegsberichter Standarte Organization

Thank you John,
As usual great work !
Did in your reasearch you run into the name van Rietschoten ?? He was an SS PK man, supposedly an Ustuf, and was KIA in Russia.
He was a brother of a friend of my wife.
Thanks

Fliegerhorst Deelen

Hi everybody, I think (actiually i am sure) I posted this before, and we came to a dead end. In the fall of 1944, there was a huge luftwaffe command center at Deelen (Holland) a large building with for the time the most advanced "computer" , aiding the "nachtgeschwader" of the Lu...

Re: Mansal Denton - "Mansal D"

I am glad he was caught with his pants down; on the other hand i cannot help feeling bad that such a waste of youth and talent went down the drain. He offered to translate my writing for me in Dutch, and even find me a Dutch publisher. I don't understand why, because if I wanted it to be published i...

Re: Junkerschule Tölz & Smoking

Smoking ? When I became 12 years of age, (thanks to a jewish grandmother ?) I suddenly became a man, and was allowed to smoke. I was a highschool senior, and tobacco was rationed, but not for us "kids". But by gosh and by golly, those of us who had discovered the new freedom, smoked. So we...

Re: HaEn's book

I have been re-re-re-re-re-editing it ( actually dragging my feet.) :( I am now at the last 80 pages, and want to call it quits. I have been trying to make old memories fit with proven facts, pretty successfully i think. My problem is that I do not want it to be seen as a history, or kriegstagesbuch...

Re: Experiences of Germans with recruitment for Foreign Legion

One of my friends and comrades, was, like i was, in our 3rd detention camp, Fort Erfprins in Holland. As an ex Waffen SS soldier, and transferee to the IJsselmeer flotille, he got to wear Kriegsmarine coast guard uniform. In the camp, he was "because he was kriegsmarine" given some leeway,...

Thanks for posting this john, As before and always, I am in awe of the amount of work and research you do, to keep things straight. Keep it up as long as you can. Re: Grave of Fritz Darges

Thank you John, for starting this thread. That is exactly why it is so important that there are people like you, Marc, and Jason, just to name a few, around to keep the historical 'facts"(sic) in balance. Only a few more years, and all of us who were there, will be gone, it's up to you to keep ...
