You know, if only in war, christmas truces can happen like that these days. In more recent history it seems that sometimes offensives are launched on christmas day, to make there no time for spirit on the frontline.

I chose #1. Why would the russians waste their strength when the germans could just do the 'work' for them? It turns out positive for the russians, because the germans are suffering irreplaceable casualties further weakening them and because the the germans would be exhausted after the uprising that...

IIRC, wasn't the last Tiger used in the attacks across the Mohnke Bridge to throw the russians back, so Martin Bormann, Ziegler and some other men could escape, although Martin was killed by bullets.
