Hi,

Agree with Groscurth, it seems to be the north of france architecture. The city of Lille looked like that in 1940. It's just an example. Anyway, Brian what is the emblem on the soldiers's helmets ?

Hi Brian, Good point if your grandfather was a pionier. If we know whose the pionier abteilung belong to, we'll surely have the answers about your pictures. So all we know that your grandfather's unit was building a wooden bridge ( the main bridge has blown up surely by the french army) in a deserte...

Hi,

I guess that it isn't Saving Meg Ryan but just Private Ryan. Tom Hanks has already saved her in Sleepless in Seattle. But if she has to be saved one more time, I'am volunteer.... :D

Hi Brian,

The soldiers on the broken bridge seem to be german and on the left on the bridge it could a part of a wooden bridge. Maybe it's a pionier unit. Anyway do you know in which unit your grandfather was in may/june/july 1940 ?

Hi,

Could be but anyway it's hard to follow all the german "adaptation". With the germans everything was possible for the captured weapons. A good example : the Marder tank.

Hi Brian, If we suppose that the river is the Moselle : 1) Th Moselles flows from the south to the north. 2) On the picture, the river seems to flow from the right to the left So the city in the back is on the east bank of the river ( like Epinal) and the soldiers are the west bank. That's logical b...
