Re: Successful Panzer III commanders?

Without any real specifics to throw in with this post -- I can tell you that many of the well-known Tiger, Panther and Pz.IV commanders out there actually began in the Pz.III. The Tiger abteilungen included Pz.IIIs in the beginning... Check out the list of successful panzer commanders and check to s...

Re: POW in two wars...

How about the same war ? There is a local vet who was shot down and captured by the Germans. He spent some time in a Luftwaffe Stalag...then managed to escape. He made his way back to Allied lines and was repatriated. He then ended up flying in the Pacific Theater and was shot down over China. He wa...

Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland

Can someone please tell me something about this unit:

2. Sch. Kp. mot. I.R. G.D.

This is the info on a dogtag -- I can guess that it is the 2nd Kompanie (Sch. ?) motorized, of Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland.
Any info about the specific unit would be great.

thanks -

Re: Unteroffizier Gross -- German Cross in Gold

Thanks Dok - I did find that one as well... I have a diary from a 2./503 guy who mentions that his pz. kommander rec'd the GC in Gold...but I can't find anything to support the claim.

Re: Feldgrau Author - Dale R. Ritter

Thank you Nord ! As soon as I know anything I will post it... I'm waiting on hearing back from one potential publisher...and considering the possibility of an e-book. I'd prefer having a book printed that I can hold in my hands but the e-book option is very interesting. I'm wondering if anyone out t...

Re: Rudel - cause of death?

I know his leg was not the cause...and I'm not sure about any other details...but I definately remember he had a stroke. I haven't looked elsewhere online but it must be availble to find.

Re: Rudel - cause of death?

From what I remember -- he had lost a leg in the war -- but once he had the time to stop flying and allow his leg to properly heal I think he was rather physically fit. Sometime after the war he had a stroke but I don't remember how close that was to the end.

Re: Feldgrau Author - Dale R. Ritter

Hello Jan-Hendrik ! Yes - the Polzin manuscript is currently with a publisher - I am waiting to hear back from them. Unfortunately Horst passed away not too long ago. So both he and Dr. Polzin died within the past year or so. I have been in contact with another interesting Tiger veteran - a former O...

Re: Who Needs a Publisher?

Is it possible to have a book published the traditional way as well doing an ebook available online ?
I know that as an avid reader I still prefer to have the book in my hands and on my shelf - but as someone who also would like to sell more copies of a book, the ebook option is very enticing...

First - I have to say that these 2 books are basically the memoirs of 2 very interesting panz...
