Re: So....My Tank Corps in Prussia...
I guess if I can't ride into battle in my wonderful old StuG, then a Luchs is fine - it may have as much protection as a cardboard box, and the killing power of a dessert fork, but it more than makes up for it in mobility and reliability! Thanks for bringing me back, D! And the song...well, yes, a n...

Re: So....My Tank Corps in Prussia...
Despite having been here from the start, my only appearance in the tale was a self-created 'ghostly' one, but on balance, I think that'll do fine!
Keep it coming, D. Wonderful stuff.

Plato's book lists the units subordinated to 5th Panzer Division, including a Lichtmesszug. Could anyone tell me what this is?

I do death by rowing machine twice a week, with free weights (very similar to Paddy's description above) another two days a week. Usually long walks with the dog at weekends, and if the walk is with my daughter on her horse, it's more of an endurance run.

Definitely still here, Comrade Commissar. Should the garrison run into a red StuG during the next day, you will find me arguing with the commander about why he won't let me drive.

Re: Progress, an Armor Topic!
My dear Commissar,
The question is not so much 'what' as 'why'.
Projectile weapons are, I agree, unlikely to do more than evolve by increments, but they are cheap, easily manufactured and maintained, and easy to train. It's hard to imagine a replacement that could tick those boxes.

As a result of the development of the situation in France since the beginning of the invasion, higher commands have withdrawn from 88th Corps' control: 1. On 9 June - Panzerjäger-Abteilung 657: 480 personnel, 0 guns, 42 anti-tank guns 2. On 16/18 June (not sure from the scanned image) - Schwere-Arti...

Re: Back with more Schörner
Literally 'anti-tank barrier.' I have often found it used interchangably with Pakfront. But I agree, it looks like it needs another verb at the end. The 'retreat mentality.' partly [due to] an embarrassing overestimation of the Bolsheviks, partly [due to] a defeatist intelligence service and a thoro...

Re: Panzer Aufklarung Abteilung 4 in 1945
Immediately after the withdrawal from Danzig, there was a huge traffic jam to the east of the city as retreating front line units, refugees, and rear area units struggled to find their way back across the various arms of the Vistula. Von Saucken ordered all non-combat vehicles to be destroyed. Perha...

Re: Panzer Aufklarung Abteilung 4 in 1945
Mattias My apologies, I didn't see your question until today. When AA4 was deployed to repulse the Soviet landings on the Frische Nehrung, it still had several half-tracks and Luchs in service. Armoured cars are also mentioned, but I have neither numbers nor exact types. It therefore follows that th...
