Re: Feldgrau author: Prit Buttar

Thank you all for your kind words. The book was a huge document when it was finished, and much of the final year was spent in trimming it down to an acceptable size. This resulted in some painful pruning; I have placed some of the pruned segments, together with some additional maps, on my new websit...

Feldgrau author: Prit Buttar

Dear friends My book, Battlefield Prussia, is published today in UK and next week in USA, after over seven years of work. It wouldn't have been possible without your generous help; my thanks to you all. Prit http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battleground-Prussia-General-Military-Buttar/dp/1849081905/ref=sr_1_...

That is truly outstanding, Linkar, far more detail than I expected. Many, many thanks. :D :D :D

Partisans, Don bend, 1942?

Can any of you kind folk tell me if there was any/much partisan activity in the area broadly between Rostov and the Don bend, at the time of the Stalingrad fighting?

Re: Footnote placement

In practice, this is dictated by the publisher, who will have a 'house style'.

Re: 131 Infanterie Division 1945

I reremember the incident you mean with regard to AA4, but I don't think that 4 Pz Div served alongside 131 Inf Div, at least not in East/West Prussia. I'm at work at the moment, I'll check details when I get home, but my recollection is that 131 Inf Div was left in the Goldap area after the end of ...

Re: 131 Infanterie Division 1945

Hi David 131 Inf Div was driven back across the Rominte Heath towards Goldap during the Nemmersdorf campaign. It managed to keep a continuous front until it took up positions just north of Goldap, when the Red Army finally achieved a breakthrough. Unfortunately for them, StuG-Br. 279 had just arrive...

Re: Feldgrau Published Fictional Authors

A quick update:

The manuscript - rather reduced from its massive 800+ pages - is in the hands of the publisher, and it should appear on the shelves in September 2010. Why it takes so long is beyond me, but there you are.

Look out for Battlefield Prussia next autumn!

Re: KG-Einem/24th Pz Div early Jan'45

Thanks, Don. The text of the book, and the accompanying maps, are all complete and delivered to the publisher. I am currently in the process of writing to all the authors I have quoted to get their permission, assembling a list of photos for inclusion in the book, etc. It's astonishing how much time...

Re: KG-Einem/24th Pz Div early Jan'45

Thanks, Martin. My source for this is 'Y Rothenburg', which Huber co-authored with Willi Hegen and Bert von Eggloffstein, two other former members of 7 Pz.Div. I suspect the exact number of vehicles will never be known, and in any event, they were all lost within a very short time, together with som...

Re: KG-Einem/24th Pz Div early Jan'45

Just a few random bits and pieces: 17 Pz.Jg.IV intended for 24 Pz.Div were confiscated in Strasburg on 20 Jan by 5 Coy, Pz.R.25, 7 Pz.Div, and deployed for an attack towards Deutsch-Eylau. The vehicles were so new, the guns hadn't been fired in and the crews had to find white paint to apply some imp...

Re: Feldgrau Author: Tom Houlihan

Let me add my personal recommendation too. Even for veteran translators like me, there are new items in this book. Anyone looking at the original German material, who is not a 'natural' German speaker, will benefit from Tom's work.
