Re: The Wehrmacht and Russia

Ok, I admit Vatutin's "brutality" was often a must. He had to submit and percecute Stalin's orders e.a. in the destruction of the Mobile Group Popov Feb. 1943. The bottom line is that both Mr. Hitler and Tavarish Stalin were conducting not a "normal war", but a war of destruction...

Re: The Wehrmacht and Russia

After 22.6.41 Stalin didn't trust anybody, anyone, anywhere. Did he earlier, not much! He was totally incompetent for several days after Hitler's attack, and after recovering this shock, his paranoia went worse and worse. I ask: How is it possible that the world had two dictators with severe obsessi...

Asking a silly question:
Which Front were these Armies under and who was the CiC of the Front?

Did You notice that this T-26 was a commanders tank.
See the ruins of the antennae circling the turret!
Normal T-26 hadn't got radios at all.

Re: Chain of Command

Re: Chain of Command

Oberleutnant and Hauptmann? Would they talk about personal issues like family, wife and children or would they keep to more professional topics and not try and get to close to each other? Would they ever confide in each other about things they dislike about a military campaign? It's objectives and ...

Re: Chain of Command

Hello Eolson, Sorry being a little rude the other day. Here's some more definitions of Wermachts enlisted men and Non Comissioned Officers (NCO's): Gefreiter, Obergefreiter: "frei" = free. These soldiers had served long enough to be freed from unpleasent Garrison duties, for example cleani...

Re: Chain of Command

Christoph, I was referring to this:
eolson wrote:Specifically the 212th Volksgrenadier Division, what would they be called in that unit?
Here's the Waffen-SS enlisted ranks:
* SS-Schütze: Private
* SS-Oberschütze (from 1942): Private 1st Class
* SS-Sturmman: Lance Corporal
* SS-Rottenführer: Corporal
