Re: zollgrenschutz btl.
Very nice summary, Hero. The Zollgrenzschutz web site you provided a link to has just about everything anyone might want to know about the subject. For the benefit of Maddog, I might add that the Zollgrenzschutz belonged to the Reich Finance Ministry until 31 July 1944, then to the SS to the end of ...

Re: zollgrenschutz btl.
That's because they did not belong to the Heer. There does not seem to be a KStN for Grenzshutz units, at least on my list.

Re: Luftwaffe Flight From Russia to China.
The above post goes to the statements made in Simon G's post of 1 May 2012 in page 2 of this thread were he asserts certain claims regarding the Japanese airfields at Matsuwa/Kuriles and Usiro (sic)/Karafuto.

R. Lameck wrote in part: It is unfortunate that this is a rather remote location. Otherwise, it may have already been done. Then, maybe we would be able to make a definitive statement. Although you have stated your disinterest in the historical aspect of this subject, some additional information mig...

Re: Luftwaffe Flight From Russia to China.
Still, as any science teacher would tell you, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Every bit of information that people relate has some basis in fact, even if that fact is the workings of someone's imagination. The proven existence of Axis aircraft which certainly possessed the capabilit...

Simon G. wrote in part: Of course I suspect even were one to produce an affidavit scrawled in blood by the very pilot himself you would probably find some pretext or other to reject it however the Nazi fuel drums are there and for you perhaps lorenz that is an inconvenient truth. Just the sight of y...

Re: Luftwaffe Flight From Russia to China.
Pursuant to Simon G's above note, for the record: The Red Army re-captured Odessa on 10 April 1944. Such flights were certainly within the realm of possibility with the various aircraft available. The absence of irrefutable evidence that such flights occurred is disappointing, but does not mean the...

Re: Luftwaffe Flight From Russia to China.
So every other source is wrong and Simon Gunston is right? Unsourced statements from a lying POW, as so many of them did when interrogated, and mysterious fuel drums on an island in the Kuriles? In order to refute the findings of everyone else over the past 67 years, I think you will need some stron...

Re: Panzergrenadier-Brigade z.b.V. 18 infos needed
Lorenz, Tessin is talking of a Panzer-Brigade not a Panzergrenadier-Brigade, there is quite a difference after all. Whoops! And right you are, Sir Alan! The old eyes were so intent on seeking out the words "Panzer" and "Brigade" that when they saw them at the bottom of p.94 in T...

Re: Panzergrenadier-Brigade z.b.V. 18 infos needed
You have been grievously mislead by Lexikon der Wehrmacht. Here is what Tessin has: Panzer-Brigade 18 (Stab) * 15.5.1942 aus dem Stab Pz.Rgt. 18; 4.1.1943 aufgelöst. U: Heerestruppe (bei 18. Pz.Div.) That's all he provides. Why? Because it was NOT a unit but rather a a HQ and staff consisting of jus...

Oops! He's YOUR grandfather, not your wife's. Sorry 'bout that. Got this momentarily confused with another individual's case which I'm working on that is very similar to yours.

Oct. 1939 - June 1945 - "Wehrdienst mit vollem Angestellten-Gehalt Yes, indeed, you have your work cut out for you. If you have no more than the quoted portion above, and you have already been to WASt, then you are out of luck unless you can find some old wartime letters that have his Feldpost...
