Re: Vosperal N756/90

I can't speak for this particular file, but I've gone through some of his files at BA-MA on the Endkampf which are a mix of personal correspondence, newspaper cuttings, photocopies from books, journal articles, unpublished first-hand accounts etc. I found some nuggets in there - but as the boxes con...

A smidgin of idiomatic German

Scenes of misery on the beach and in the villages. Lord, what sort of people wanted this? They should be sent here....

Re: What do you read at the moment?

Martin Rüther's history of Cologne during WW2: http://www.amazon.de/K%C3%B6ln-Zweiten-Weltkrieg-Erfahrungen-zwischen/dp/3897054078/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1329335351&sr=1-2 Outstanding - one of the very best biographies of a city I've come across. The first half of the book is an ...

And now for a little bit of Goebbels

Re: Even more idiomatic German

Ah now I get it. Thanks Fridgeman.

It's not Rommel saying he was putting his reputation on the line - it's his staff advising him that if he attacks, his reputation is on the line... and many similar arguments. :D

Re: Even more idiomatic German

It is indeed the end.

Even more idiomatic German

A snippet from Westphal's memoirs: In der glühenden Hitze des afrikanischen Sommers würden die Briten nicht angreifen, im September würden wir kräfte- und versorgungsmäßig besser dastehen als jetzt, Rommel setze seinen Ruhm aufs Spiel und was der Argumente mehr waren it's the final "was der Arg...

Re: Too many negatives

* Bump *

It's the second half of the sentence which I'm struggling with:

perhaps:

unless the Führer stops refusing to offer them the obligatory handshake - as he's done for the past three weeks?

Re: Living Luftwaffe Aces

:(

That's very sad news. If anyone has the chance to read them, his memoirs are excellent. I believe there's an English translation imminent.

A little bit of idiomatic German

Which I've had a stab at: And our troops no longer have the...

Re: Rudi Kuke, Nachts als die Russen kamen

It features three accounts, one by Gertraud Schmöckel (25 pages), one by Reinhard Zäpernick from Massin (60 pages), and 80 pages by Rudi Kuke.
