Re: Did US Army have War Diaries in WW2 … (?)

Well, Rich, I've struck gold before with RQs on forums ... but your reply is so comprehensive and generous! Thank you very much. You're very welcome. I forgot to add though, that ISTR that Hyperwar used to have some of the SRH reports available online, you might do a search for them there? In the U...

Re: Did US Army have War Diaries in WW2 … (?)

I’m trying to find out about the 129th Signal Radio Intelligence Company. They were part of the 6th Army Group in the European Theater of Operations, US Army. I also have a note that the 129th was assigned to the Fifteenth (15th) Army. Mike Hi Mike, No, US Army units did not keep "War Diaries&...

Re: Real organisation of the 9. SS-Panz.Div. (1.6.44)

Rich, My information is based upon a list from 1941 or so, with a lot of later war models not yet in use. Nr. 30 on that list simply states 7,5 cm KwK L 40, so if that's correct, I am correct too. If it is not, well, I must be not too :D Nr. 31 was free, and from experience and other examples I lea...

I am preparing a long reply to your questions from last weekend.

Piet, what is a Panz. IV L/40? Is that supposed to be L/43?

Re: 16th Panzer OOB Salerno

Thanks for all your help guys this is great info. Flammpanzers ? any idea of type I assume a MKIII variant. Info on the 26th in the counter attacks of the 13/14th would be great to. Thanks again. Yes, they were Flammpanzer III. There were seven of them all committed early in the battle. Six were lo...

Re: 16th Panzer OOB Salerno

Sorry, can't help you much further. The divisional history of the 16. Pz.Div. is not very detailed about the fighting around the tobacco factory. The I./79 did not have any APCs. The mechanized battalion of the 16. Pz.Div. was the II./Pz.Gren.Rgt. 64. Can't tell if perhaps elements from it or from ...

Re: 16th Panzer OOB Salerno

Hi Rich, a few corrections if I may: Thanks, I was going blind trying to read my copy. :D From the divisional history of the 16. Pz.Div. it appears that mainly the I./Pz.Gren.Rgt. 79 was engaged in the battle for the tabacco factory. BTW it's a bit odd that the 'Zustandsberichte' continued to list ...

Re: 16th Panzer OOB Salerno

I'm doing some research into Salerno. I've got pretty good info on the Allies but my sources are sketchy on the Germans. Does anyone have info on the 16th Panzer or the 79th Panzer Grenadier Regiment (part of 16th) at Salerno or specifically the battles for the tobacco factory 11-14th September 194...

Re: "Desert Island Discs".....

Otherwise... Die Brücke, 1959 German movie, directed by Bernhard Wicki. waleed Omigod! Yes! I had forgotten about it and haven't seen it for years. One of the most realistic war flics - aside from Dr. Strangelove :D (don't laugh, best cinema verite fictional combat footage ever done) - ever done.

The Best Years of Their Lives
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
...?

Tough choice. :D Number three is occupied by Stairway to Heaven, From Here to Eternity (I suppose no fair Deborah Kerr twice, might overload the senses), Kelly's Heroes, and many more!

Rich, Mike Wood is a very nice guy. I have the pleasure to talk with him on the phone or have e-mail contact with so every once and a while. Piet Hi Piet, I believe you, but wish I could remember who was the "nice guy" who PM'ed me the last time? 8) I want to believe that everything unref...

Re: Dugdales OoB Books

In this , i am confused. I understand, but my sense is that yours and ours confusion is not going to be resolved by Dugdale and Wood? Which is both sad and unnecessary. So, in the meantime your option is to spend the money and remain uncertain about the provenance of the data, or stick with incompl...

Re: Dugdales OoB Books

Hi, Nafziger is suprise in negative way, what that mean ? Nafziger is immense, expensive, and riddled with errors. The first two are understandable and unavoidable, but the last is problematic. And that is not to say that being error-free is possible, there are problems with some of the other sourc...

I would say you deserve the credit for actually expend...
