Re: Was Dresden a mistake?

Attacks during the night were terror attacks and did not really work. Speer and Goebbels don't seem to have agreed with you. Nor does the toll of destruction upon German war industries in Hamburg during the night campaign there . The attack against Dresden was therefore a pure terror attack and not...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?

The attack was intended as a terror attack, not a precision one against targets of economical or military importance In WWII, events had proved that precision bombing at night was next to impossible. Shall we rehash ALL the night precision bombing up to late '41 vs. are bombing debate again, the But...

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?

Nope; according to Ross,"Strategic Bombing by the United States in World War II: The Myths and the Facts" Dresden was - according to the RAF at the time, "the largest remaining unbombed built-up area in Germany".

Re: Was Dresden a mistake?

This is a subject that gets discussed at leat once a year on military history forums  Any city is mostly residential - it's what those residents do for a living that the problem; in 1944, the German Army High Command's Weapons Office listed 127 medium-to-large factories and workshops that were...

Having read Halder you should also know that the crane question was not seen as a problem by the port masters.
Woop de doo. They weren't the ones responsible for the operation timetable....

And how did they view the Basins full of sunken wrecks???

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

For information - I have outlined the situation for the FJ's in Holland like this in my book : "When describing the happenings in Holland in 1940 it is quite usual to mix up the 7th Fliegerdivision and the 22nd Infantry Division. The latter was moved by transport planes and landed directly, in the f...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

Thank you for ýour information, I shall go through it. As for Fornebu it was left out because it was not attacked by the FJ's but by infantry arriving in transports. The FJ's had turned back because of the weather And what aircraft were the men of 22nd Airlanding being carried in??? Sep. 15th – He1...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

The FJ's did not have any losses to speak of in Norway. The force dropped at Dombås consisted of one company. Most of these were captured and later released when the fighting was over. I have not seen any information that any Ju52's were shot down on that operation by Norwegian machine gunners. If ...

Re: Maps for Seelöwe

Oh, well - the Germans used what they had when they had to - see Narvik. Not for para drops  Apart from that, if they didn't have enough Ju's to drop the complete FJ division in one batch, which I don't think they had (things changed all the time), their departure airfields were approx. 30 mi...

Fred...
What fire - from whom - at whom...?.....I can give you details on force compositions for the landing forces at the four beaches. Can you detail the defence for me? I would appreciate that very much.
What sources did you use for the British defences for your book?
