Re: 4. (Panzer) Kompanie / schw. Ski-Batallion 1

Would we be safe in assuming that the 47mm on the SdKfz 10's were in fact 45mm Soviet guns ?

Re: PzKpfw II Ausf. a/b/c

The paint seems to have been rubbed off by the track "teeth", the same thing happened on the Panther.

Re: Forgotten AFVs--The Official Sd. Kfz. 250/9 Thread!

Kelvin, I'm surprised at you asking such a question. You know perfectly well that firstly, there wasn't room in the Pz Spah Kp c for all those SdKfz 250/5 and secondly that the 250/5 was used in many other units as their communications vehicle.

Re: Eastern Panzerjaeger Units Rebuilt near Antwerp in 1944?

Chris, I've been following your quest on the various forums and this is just where I chose to ask the question, nothing I've seen so far precludes them actually making 4 kills especially as I believe that the entire Platoon would take credit for each victory.

Re: Eastern Panzerjaeger Units Rebuilt near Antwerp in 1944?

Chris, why are the 4 kill markings unlikely ? Have you checked to see how many tanks the British lost in the Antwerp fighting ?

Re: General Georg Stumme

XXXX Panzer Korps didn't exist until 9th July 1942 when it was renamed from Stumme's XXXX Armeekorps (mot) . The first commander of XXXX Panzerkorps was General der Panzertruppen Leo Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg and he took over command on 20th July 1942. Lexikon der Wehrmacht says that Stumme wa...

Re: Pz IV Beob 7.5 cm gun and ammo

Kelvin, Because they needed to be able to defend themselves. The British had moved away from dummy guns on their command and observation tanks as well remember. The Beob tank had to be up front with the advancing tanks after all.

Re: Pz IV Beob 7.5 cm gun and ammo

Kelvin, the Beobpanzer IV was fitted with the same gun as a normal Pz IV so the L/48 75mm. The Beobpz IV would have carried the same amount of ammunition as its contemporary BefPz IV.

Re: Simple question about German gun sizes.

Hi all, I've read tons of books and other info regarding WW2 and tanks, etc... In all of my reading i have never seen an explanation of what 7.5 cm KwK 40/L48 (Panzer IV) means 'completely'. I know 75mm is the caliber, Kwk is Kampfwagenkanone (fighting vehicle canon), but, what does 40/L48 mean. I'...

Re: Logic for a Sd.Kfz 251/1 as a Mortar Platoon HQ vehicle?

I think that it would come down to who, in a command level sense, needed to communicate with the platoon in question. Plainly the writers of the KStN thought that the Stummels needed to be able to communicate both at a higher level and at greater ranges than the mortars. If you accept that the morta...

Schützen is better translated as Rifles, the German had Fusilier units and they went by Fusilier not Schützen .
