Hello Haen, I am happy to hear that you are 'back' again. May I correct your German grammer? I hope you permit me to tell you that 'Pukel' is spelled 'Buckel'. Auf bayrisch haben wir immer gesagt: Du konnscht ma an Buckl norutschn (as you can tell, bavarian dialect has almost nothing in common with ...

Before you die

Presently, I am reading the book titled "From YALTA to BERLIN" - The cold war struggle over Germany. Author W. R. Smyser. Smyser is one of America's leading experts on Germany. DURCHGANGSSTRASSE

Hello Helmut, I believe that the German military use of the term "Rollbahn" was in reference to a main supply road; most likely derived from the aviatic meaning of a runway, taxiway, or tarmac. One could say that is means a main supply road. A Durchgangsstrasse is the general term of a street or roa...

Re: German to English Translation Please

I would translate it thus:

1. In memory of the year of the war 1942 from your friend Herbert.

2. (horiz): As Kuban infantry rifle man, captured in the photo on 21 September 1943.
(vert.): In remembrance of the fifth wartime Christmas 1943.

Translation

'Die Brigade verliert trotz hohen abschusszahlen alle Geschutze'.
My opinion:
"In spite of the high success of putting out of action (I presume tanks or guns, etc.), the Brigade lost all their pieces of artillery (or guns)."
